Kern OZL 464T241 Digital Microscope Set, Stereo Zoom 0.7x-4.5x with 5 MP Tablet Camera

Product information "Kern OZL 464T241 Digital Microscope Set, Stereo Zoom 0.7x-4.5x with 5 MP Tablet Camera"

The OZL 464T241 package includes the OZL 464 stereo zoom microscope, which is already connected to the ODC 241 tablet camera. The specimen can be viewed through the eyepieces whilst simultaneously being displayed as a live image on a 9.7-inch Android tablet with a touchscreen, where it can be captured and measured. The appropriate C-mount adapter is included in the delivery. The set is designed as a complete digital solution for live examination.

The microscope

The optical system is a Greenough system with a continuously variable zoom range from 0.7x to 4.5x (ratio 6.4:1). With the HWF 10x eyepieces (20 mm field of view), this gives a magnification range of 7x to 45x. The field of view measures 28.6 mm to 4.4 mm, the working distance is 105 mm, specimens may be up to 140 mm high, and the maximum resolution is 0.0037 mm. The head is trinocular, with the light path distributed in a 50:50 ratio between the eyepieces and the camera, allowing both to be used simultaneously. The zoom ring locks into defined steps via a click-stop mechanism. The tube is inclined at 45 degrees and can be rotated; the interpupillary distance can be adjusted from 55 to 75 mm, and dioptre compensation is available on both sides. Focusing is achieved via a coarse focus knob on the column stand.

The tablet camera

The camera features a Sony CMOS sensor (1/2.8-inch) with 5 megapixels and displays the image on a touchscreen with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. The pre-installed S-EYE app captures images and videos and measures distances, areas and angles. A manual counting function is available, as are automatic white balance and automatic contrast adjustment. The frame rate ranges from 15 to 30 frames per second. Data is saved to a USB stick or SD card; a USB mouse can be connected, and the live image can be output to an external monitor via HDMI. Wi-Fi and USB 2.0 are also included. The tablet camera is also available separately from us as the ODC 241, for use with another trinocular microscope fitted with a C-mount adapter.

Illumination, stand and power

The reflected and transmitted light sources are 3-watt LEDs and can be dimmed independently. The base of the column stand measures 290 x 240 mm, whilst the head mount has a diameter of 76 mm. The head is detachable and, according to Kern, can be integrated into other modular systems. The microscope’s power supply is built-in (100 to 240 V, detachable power cable, protection class I). The set measures 300 x 240 x 640 mm (W x D x H) and has a net weight of 6 kg.

Set or microscope without a camera

Those who already own a camera or only need to take images occasionally can make do with the trinocular OZL 466 and add a camera later via a C-mount adapter. Those who intend to document and measure their samples anyway will save time and effort by choosing the set, as it eliminates the need to select an adapter and camera separately.

Typical applications

Kern describes the tablet camera as ideal for school pupils and students in training, and for demonstration purposes in the laboratory. The OZL 46 series is designed for training centres, workshops and assembly and repair workstations, for example, in the electronics industry, as well as for schools, testing centres and laboratories. Kern highlights the 50:50 beam path distribution as being suitable for documentation, live image transmission, and precise inspection and soldering work.
