Kern OZL 473 stereo zoom microscope, binocular, 0.7x to 4.5x, LED double gooseneck

The Kern OZL-47 series comprises two stereo zoom microscopes with an integrated LED double gooseneck illuminator for incident light. Instead of a fixed ring light, the series features two adjustable light arms that can be directed towards the specimen. The OZL 473 is binocular, while the OZL 474 is trinocular with a camera output. The zoom range is continuously adjustable from 0.7x to 4.5x; when used with the HWF 10x eyepieces, this provides a total magnification of 7x to 45x. Kern intends this series for training workshops, testing centres and laboratories.

Double gooseneck instead of ring light

The two LED goosenecks together provide 3 W of incident light and are continuously dimmable. According to Kern, the illumination can be adjusted individually and quickly. The series has no transmitted light. The contrast method is bright field.

Zoom, field of view and working distance

The zoom ratio is 6.4:1; according to the data sheet, the field of view measures 4.4 to 28.6 mm, and the working distance is 105 mm. The Greenough system produces a stereoscopic image. The tube is inclined at 45° and rotates through 360°; the interpupillary distance ranges from 55 to 75 mm, and the dioptre adjustment operates on both sides from -5 to +5. The HWF 10x eyepieces have a 20 mm field of view, a high eye point and a 30 mm mounting diameter.

OZL 473 or OZL 474

The OZL 473 is binocular and has no camera output. The OZL 474 is trinocular; the beam splitter ratio is 0:100 according to the data sheet. A C-Mount adapter is required to connect a camera; Kern lists the microscope camera adapters OZB-A4809 (1x), OZB-A4810 (0.3x) and OZB-A4811 (0.5x). The OZL 474 brochure lists the ODC 241 and ODC 251 tablet cameras, as well as the ODC 825, ODC 832, ODC 852 and ODC 854, as cameras.

Column stand and dimensions

According to Kern, the head can be removed from the column stand and fitted into other modular systems, for example a universal stand. The coarse focus mechanism features torque control. Both microscopes measure 300 x 240 x 420 mm and have a net weight of approx. 4.2 kg. They may be stored at temperatures between -5 °C and 40 °C.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these microscopes come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
