Kern OZL 963 stereomicroscope set, universal telescopic arm stand, zoom 0.7x-4.5x, 4.5 W LED ring light

The Kern OZL-9 models are two ready-to-use stereo microscope sets comprising a stereo zoom head, a universal telescopic arm stand with a plate, a holder, an LED ring light and a dust cover. The OZL 961 is binocular, while the OZL 963 is trinocular with a camera output. Both are available with an EU plug (no suffix) and with a UK plug (suffix UK), making a total of four variants. The suffix UK stands for the UK adapter, which, according to Kern, is included in the scope of delivery. The zoom range is continuously adjustable from 0.7x to 4.5x; when used with the HWF 10x eyepieces, this provides a total magnification of 7x to 45x.

Telescopic arm for large samples

According to Kern, the universal telescopic arm stand is extremely versatile. According to Kern, it is particularly suitable for large specimens and for working freely under the microscope. The microscope head, 76 mm in diameter, is guided in the holder. The working distance is 100 mm, and the maximum specimen height is 140 mm. The base plate makes the set stable: the sets measure 700 x 255 x 600 mm and weigh approximately 17 kg (OZL 961) or 18 kg (OZL 963) net.

Ring light and optics

The incident light is provided by a 4.5 W LED ring light, which is dimmable. The set has no transmitted light. The Greenough system provides a stereoscopic image; the field of view measures 4.4 to 28.6 mm. The tube is inclined at 45° and rotates through 360°; the interpupillary distance ranges from 55 to 75 mm, and the dioptre adjustment operates on both sides from -5 to +5. The HWF 10x eyepieces have a 20 mm field of view, a high eye point and a 30 mm mounting diameter. A torque control is provided on the coarse focus knob.

Binocular or trinocular

The OZL 963 also has a third tube outlet with a beam splitter ratio of 0:100. A C-Mount adapter is required to connect a camera; Kern lists the microscope camera adapters OZB-A4809 (1x), OZB-A4810 (0.3x) and OZB-A4811 (0.5x) for this purpose. The OZL 963 brochure lists the ODC 241 tablet camera, as well as the ODC 825, ODC 832, ODC 852 and ODC 854, as cameras.

Power and mains plug

The power supply is built in and operates at 100 to 240 V; it is connected with an IEC power cable. According to Kern, the UK adapter is included in the scope of delivery for sets ending in UK. For sets with an EU plug (without UK), adapters for various countries are optional, according to the data sheet. The sets may be stored at temperatures between -5 °C and 40 °C.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these sets come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
