The Kern OZM-9 are pre-configured stereo microscope sets comprising the stereo zoom head from the OZM-5 series, a universal stand, a holder, an LED ring light and a dust cover. There are twelve basic models, each with an EU plug (no suffix) and a UK plug (suffix UK), making a total of 24 variants. All sets feature a zoom range of 0.7x to 4.5x, HSWF 10x eyepieces and a 4.5 W LED in incident light. They differ in three respects: the stand, the head (binocular or trinocular) and the mains plug (EU or UK). The model number reveals this: the first two digits after ‘OZM’ denote the stand (90, 91, 92, 93, 95, 98), the third digit denotes the head (2 for binocular, 3 for trinocular), and the suffix UK indicates that a UK adapter is included in the scope of delivery. According to Kern, the set eliminates the need to configure the individual components.
An overview of six stands
The 90 and 91 series have a telescopic arm with a base plate; at 26 kg, the 91 series is significantly heavier than the 90 series, which weighs 17 kg. The 92 and 93 series have a ball-bearing double arm with a base plate (22 kg and 28 kg). The 95 series has an articulating arm with a clamp and weighs 11 kg; the 98 series has a spring-loaded articulating arm with a clamp and weighs 6 kg. The clamps on the 95 and 98 series allow the microscope to be attached to the edge of a table, while the plate on the other series lets it stand without fixing. The weight depends on the stand. Head and optics
The head features a Greenough system. The zoom range is continuously adjustable from 0.7x to 4.5x with a ratio of 6.4:1; when used with the eyepieces, this gives a range of 7x to 45x. The field of view ranges from 5.1 to 32.8 mm, the working distance is 110 mm, and the maximum specimen height is 130 mm. The HSWF 10x eyepieces have a 23 mm field of view, a high eye point and an anti-fungus coating. The tube is inclined at 45°, the interpupillary distance ranges from 52 to 76 mm, and the dioptre adjustment operates on both sides. The trinocular sets (third digit 3) feature a camera output; the beam splitter ratio is 0:100 according to the data sheet. A C-Mount adapter is required to connect a camera; Kern lists the microscope camera adapters OZB-A5701 (0.3x), OZB-A5702 (0.5x), OZB-A5703 and OZB-A5704 (1x each), as well as the cameras ODC 825, ODC 832, ODC 852 and ODC 854.
Ring light, power supply and mains plug
The incident light is a dimmable 4.5 W LED ring light. The set has no transmitted light. The power supply is built-in and operates at 100 to 240 V. According to Kern, the UK adapter is included in the scope of delivery for sets ending in UK. For sets with an EU plug (without UK), adapters for various countries are optional, according to the data sheet. All sets may be stored at temperatures between -5 °C and 40 °C.

According to Kern & Sohn, these sets come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
