Kern PBJ 6000-2M precision balance 6,200 g / 0.01 g

The Kern PBJ is a multifunctional laboratory balance with a single-cell weighing system, a metal housing and internal adjustment. Six models weigh from 620 g to 8,200 g and read to 0.001 g, 0.01 g or 0.1 g. Five models have a verification value and can optionally be ordered with a conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU). Only the PBJ 1000-3 is available without this option. The related Kern PBS series has no verification values and is adjusted externally.

Adjustment and documentation

According to Kern, the internal adjustment circuit operates in response to temperature changes and is time-controlled at set intervals. According to Kern, this makes the balance location-independent. The balance identification number is four-digit, freely programmable and also printed in the adjustment report. After every standstill of the balance, the data are automatically sent to a PC or printer. According to Kern, the balance has two standard RS-232 interfaces for this purpose.

Dosing and portioning

A high-stability mode and other filter settings are available as a dosing aid. When weighing within a tolerance range (checkweighing), a visual signal supports portioning, dosing or sorting. The balance adds up weight values and counts pieces. The units can be switched between, including kg, g, mg, ct, lb and oz. The LCD display features 14 mm high digits.

Which model

The PBJ 600-3M (620 g) and the PBJ 1000-3 (1,020 g) have a readability of 0.001 g. Both have a plastic draught shield and a weighing pan measuring 113 x 110 mm. The PBJ 1000-3 is the only model designed without a verification value; it may also be placed in a wider temperature range (5 °C to 40 °C, 30 % to 85 % humidity). The PBJ 2000-2M, 4000-2M and 6000-2M (2,200 g, 4,200 g, 6,200 g) have a readability of 0.01 g, whilst the PBJ 8000-1M (8,200 g) has a readability of 0.1 g with a stabilisation time of 1.2 s. All four have a weighing pan measuring 176 x 189 mm. The PBJ 600-3M and PBJ 6000-2M are in accuracy class I; the remaining three models with a verification value belong to class II. The stabilisation time for the other five models is 2.5 s.

Design and power supply

The die-cast aluminium housing measures 191 x 317 x 79 mm; with the draught shield, it measures 202 x 317 x 166 mm. According to the data sheet, a hook for below-balance weighing is included in the scope of delivery. The plug-in mains adaptor has adaptors for EU and CH; further adaptors (AUS, UK, US) are optional. The models with verification value operate at 10 °C to 30 °C and up to 80 % humidity.

Conformity assessment and calibration

A conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is optional for the five models with a verification value. It can only be ordered ex works together with the balance; according to Kern, a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. To place an order, Kern needs the full address of the installation site. A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately for all models. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
