Kern PCJ 6000-1M precision balance 6,000 g / 0.1 g

The Kern PCJ is a precision balance with an alibi memory, internal adjustment circuit and KUP connection. There are two models to choose from: the PCJ 600-2M weighs up to 600 g with a readability of 0.01 g, whilst the PCJ 6000-1M weighs up to 6,000 g with a readability of 0.1 g. Both have a verification value and can optionally be ordered with a conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU). Kern only supplies the conformity assessment ex works.

Alibi memory and logging

The alibi memory archives the weighing results electronically and without paper. According to Kern, this also allows results of weighings subject to mandatory verification to be evaluated and processed electronically. The data sheet specifies 250,000 memory locations. For documentation, the balance records weighing data and adjustments according to GLP/ISO with date, time and ID no. Kern describes the connection to laboratory information systems (LIMS) as possible. Via the KERN Communication Protocol (KCP), computers or CRM and ERP systems can query the balance and control it remotely.

Adjustment without mains connection

The internal adjustment circuit is triggered with a rotary knob on the side; the balance can be adjusted independently of mains power in rechargeable battery operation. A menu lock prevents unauthorised access to the settings. In the menu, for example, you can set the key tones, assign different functions to a key and customise the print report. According to Kern, the operation follows a consistent logic across all products in terms of design, menu structure, button functions and interface protocol.

KUP connection and power supply

The adaptors for RS-232, USB device, Ethernet, WLAN and Bluetooth BLE are plugged into the KERN Universal Port (KUP) without opening the housing. The power supply is included in the scope of delivery; the balance also runs on a battery, which is not supplied. An internal rechargeable battery is optional (charging time 8 h, operating time 24 h with and 48 h without backlight). The plastic housing measures 163 x 245 x 80 mm; the LCD has digits 21 mm high. The permissible range is 15 °C to 35 °C and up to 80 % humidity. For a balance with a conformity assessment, the range of units is restricted according to the data sheet (PCJ 600-2M: g only).

A comparison of two models

The PCJ 600-2M has a square weighing pan measuring 131 x 131 mm and a minimum load of 0.5 g; the stabilisation time is 4 s. The PCJ 6000-1M measures 150 x 170 mm, has a minimum load of 5 g and takes 3 s. Both belong to accuracy class II. The smaller balance suits weighing in up to 600 g with counting of small parts (20 mg in the laboratory), the larger one containers up to 6 kg (minimum unit weight 200 mg).

Conformity assessment and calibration

A conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is optional. It can only be ordered ex works together with the balance; according to Kern, a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. To place an order, Kern needs the full address of the installation site. A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 2-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
