The Kern PDS is a precision balance with force compensation and a touch display. Seven models weigh from 320 g to 10,200 g and read to 0.001 g or 0.01 g. Three models (PDS 300-3, PDS 600-3, PDS 1000-3) have a glass draught shield, whilst the four larger models have a rectangular stainless steel plate measuring 185 x 185 mm. Features include a statistics function, GLP/ISO logging and direct data transfer to Windows programmes.
Touch display and data transfer
The touch display allows you to switch the unit or start adjustment directly on the screen. With the Windows Direct function, weighing values are transferred to a Windows application via the USB device port without the need for manual input. RS-232 is available as standard. Via the KERN Communication Protocol (KCP), computers or CRM and ERP systems can query the balance and control it remotely. According to the data sheet, the menu is in English and in symbol language.
Documentation and data integrity
At every adjustment and every weighing, the balance can log date, time and ID no. (GLP/ISO). For data integrity, Kern lists support according to U.S. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 with weighing result, sample ID, user name and balance ID. The statistics function, weighing with tolerance range, counting function, percentage weighing and totalling function are part of the equipment. Adjustment is carried out using an external weight.
Seven models, two designs
The PDS 300-3 (320 g), the PDS 600-3 (620 g) and the PDS 1000-3 (1,020 g) have a readability of 0.001 g. They have a round weighing plate (Ø 115 mm) under a glass draught shield with a weighing chamber of 174 x 162 x 228 mm and are 360 mm high when fully assembled. The PDS 2000-2 (2,200 g), PDS 4000-2 (4,200 g) and PDS 6000-2 (6,200 g) have a readability of 0.01 g, whilst the PDS 10K-5 weighs up to 10,200 g, also with a readability of 0.01 g. The four models without a draught shield are 101 mm high. The stabilisation time ranges from 2 s (PDS 2000-2) to 5 s (PDS 10K-5). According to the data sheet, a hook for below-balance weighing is included in the scope of delivery.
Power and operation
The plug-in mains adaptor operates at 100 V to 240 V and 50 Hz or 60 Hz; adaptors for EU, UK, US and CH are included. The housing is made of ABS plastic, and the LCD has 20 mm high digits. The units can be switched between, including kg, g, ct, lb, N and oz (mg for the PDS 300-3, 600-3, 1000-3 and 2000-2). The balance is specified for ambient temperatures of 15 °C to 25 °C and a humidity of 15 % to 80 %.

Calibration
For the PDS series, Kern does not list a conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU). A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately; the item number is listed in the model table. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.

The dust cover ABS-A08 and the ionisers ABP-A01 and YBI-01A (for PDS 300-3, PDS 600-3, PDS 1000-3), thermal printers (YKC-01, YKH-01), the dot-matrix printer YKG-01, the needle printer YKT-01, RS232 Ethernet converters (YKI-10, YKI-11), the RS232 WLAN converter YKI-12, the RS-232 interface cable 572-926, the anti-vibration table YPS-03 and the anti-vibration plates YPS-04 and YPS-05 are also available. Kern lists the following test weights: 316-09 (500 g, OIML class E2) for the PDS 600-3, 316-11 (1 kg, E2) for the PDS 1000-3 and 316-13 (5 kg, E2) for PDS 6000-2 and PDS 10K-5, each in compact form made of polished stainless steel.
