Kern PES 31000-1M precision balance 31,000 g / 0.1 g

The Kern PES is a range of precision balances featuring a tuning fork weighing system and a die-cast aluminium housing. Kern describes them as laboratory and industrial balances for heavy items. Six models cover weighing ranges from 620 g to 31,000 g. The PES 620-3M has a readability of 0.001 g (1 mg). The PES 2200-2M, 4200-2M and 6200-2M have a readability of 0.01 g, whilst the PES 15000-1M and 31000-1M have a readability of 0.1 g. All have the same stabilisation time of 3 s, a fluorescent display, an RS-232 interface and a stainless steel weighing plate.

Which model for which weighing application

The choice depends on the heaviest item to be weighed and on the resolution. The PES 620-3M weighs up to 620 g and reads to the milligram. For weighing up to 6,200 g to 0.01 g, there are three models available, each with a reproducibility of 0.01 g. The linearity for the PES 2200-2M and 4200-2M is ± 0.02 g, whilst for the PES 6200-2M it is ± 0.03 g. At 15,000 g and 31,000 g, the readability is 0.1 g. The PES 31000-1M, on the other hand, has a larger weighing pan (250 x 220 mm instead of 200 x 200 mm) and weighs around 10 kg; its linearity is ± 0.4 g, compared with ± 0.2 g for the PES 15000-1M.

Adjustment with an external weight

The PES is adjusted using an external weight. The CAL adjustment programme guides through the procedure; suitable test weights are available at extra cost. Kern does not specify an internal adjustment for this series. If you are looking for a balance with internal adjustment and optional conformity assessment, take a look at the Kern PEJ series. Display, counting and weighing with tolerance range

The fluorescent display is self-illuminating and has 14 mm high digits; according to the data sheet, the user guidance is in English. A capacity display and a standby function are included. The balance counts pieces with the reference piece counts 5, 10, 30 and 100, determines percentages and adds up formulation components with the Net-Total function. The units can be switched between, including kg, g and ct. When weighing within a tolerance range, two upper and two lower limit values are entered using four arrow keys. Kern names portioning, dosing and sorting for this.

The minimum unit weight for piece counting is specified in the model table. It ranges from 1 mg under laboratory conditions for the PES 620-3M to 500 mg for the PES 31000-1M.

Design

The housing measures 220 x 333 x 93 mm for most models, and 260 x 330 x 113 mm for the PES 31000-1M. The PES 620-3M also features a plastic draught shield with a weighing chamber measuring 170 x 150 x 100 mm, giving it a height of 186 mm. The spirit level and adjustable feet are used for levelling. For the PES 620-3M and the PES 2200-2M, an eyelet for below-balance weighing is included in the scope of delivery. RS-232 is available as standard; a control output with optocoupler (digital I/O) is optionally available ex works. The plug-in mains adaptor operates at 100 V to 240 V AC at 50 / 60 Hz.

Calibration

A DAkkS calibration certificate can be ordered separately: item no. 963-103 for PES 620-3M, item no. 963-127 for PES 2200-2M and PES 4200-2M, item no. 963-104 for PES 6200-2M, item no. 963-128 for PES 15000-1M and PES 31000-1M. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.

Warranty

According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
