Kern PFB 6000-2 compact laboratory balance 6,000 g / 0.01 g

Product information "Kern PFB 6000-2 compact laboratory balance 6,000 g / 0.01 g"

The Kern PFB is a compact laboratory balance with a strain gauge weighing system, a stainless steel weighing plate and a checkweighing function. Ten models cover weighing ranges from 120 g to 6,000 g. Four models read to 0.001 g (PFB 120-3, 200-3, 300-3 and 600-3), five to 0.01 g (PFB 600-2, 1200-2, 2000-2, 3000-2 and 6000-2) and one to 0.1 g (PFB 6000-1). All models feature a backlit LCD with 21 mm high digits, a standard RS-232 interface and a capacity display.

Ten models in three readability levels

The models with a readability of 0.001 g weigh up to 120 g, 200 g, 300 g and 600 g. They feature a round weighing pan with a diameter of 80 mm (up to 300 g) or 120 mm (PFB 600-3) and a removable draught shield. For the models with a readability of 0.01 g, the weighing range increases from 600 g via 1,200 g, 2,000 g and 3,000 g up to 6,000 g. Up to 3,000 g, a draught shield is part of the equipment as well; the weighing pan measures Ø 120 mm. The PFB 6000-2 and the PFB 6000-1 have a rectangular weighing pan of 190 x 180 mm and no draught shield. The PFB 6000-1 is the only model that reads to 0.1 g.

The PFB 600-3 and the PFB 6000-2 have the greatest resolution in the series at 600,000. Their stabilisation time is 6 s, whilst that of all other models is 2 s.

Checkweighing, hold function and capacity display

When weighing with a tolerance range (checkweighing), a visual and an audible signal indicate whether a value is within the range. Kern names portioning, dosing and sorting for this. Under unsettled weighing conditions, the hold function forms an average value and thus delivers a stable value. An ascending bar graph display shows how much of the weighing range is still available. All main functions have their own button on the control panel.

Counting, percentage determination and formulations

The balances count pieces with the reference piece counts 5, 10, 20 and 50 or with a freely entered reference. The minimum unit weight for piece counting ranges from 2 mg to 200 mg under laboratory conditions, depending on the model (model table). Further functions are percentage determination, the formulation function Net-Total, a totalising memory, a statistics function and the PRE-TARE function, which subtracts the known weight of a container in advance. The units are switchable, including kg, g, lb, oz and ct. The KCP (KERN Communication Protocol) command set is available for connection to computers and control systems.

Adjustment

All models are adjusted using an external weight. Kern specifies a recommended adjustment weight for each model, along with its accuracy class and three possible adjustment points (model table). This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below). A spirit level and adjustable feet are part of the equipment. According to the data sheet, the load cell has degree of protection IP65; the display has no IP protection.

Power supply, rechargeable battery and Bluetooth

The balance runs on a plug-in mains adaptor for 100 V to 240 V and 50/60 Hz; country adaptors for EU, UK, US and CH are included. A rechargeable battery (EWJ-A06) can be ordered ex works. According to the data sheet, it lasts 72 h with the backlight off and 36 h with the backlight on and charges in 6.5 h. In battery operation, automatic switch-off after 30 s, 1, 2, 5, 30 or 60 min can be selected. A Bluetooth interface (PFB-A10, Bluetooth 2.0 and 4.0) is also available only ex works; according to Kern, it cannot be retrofitted.

Typical applications

  • Laboratory applications: weighing and sample preparation; for models with 0.001 g readability, down to the milligram range
  • Industrial applications: weighing larger quantities up to 6,000 g with a weighing pan of 190 x 180 mm
  • Quality control: weighing with tolerance range with visual and audible signal
  • Formulations: totalling weighings with Net-Total
  • Portioning, dosing and sorting with checkweighing

If you need to weigh quantities under 1 g to the nearest milligram, choose one of the models with 0.001 g readability. For quantities from a few hundred grams to 3,000 g, a readability of 0.01 g is sufficient, and the PFB 6000-1 is suitable when containers up to 6 kg are weighed to 0.1 g.
