Kern PLS 20000-1F precision balance 20,000 g / 0.1 g

Product information "Kern PLS 20000-1F precision balance 20,000 g / 0.1 g"

The Kern PLS is a series of precision balances with graphic display and formulation database, adjusted with an external weight. Seven models cover weighing ranges from 420 g to 20,000 g. Three models have a readability of 0.001 g (1 mg): the PLS 420-3F, 720-3A and 1200-3A. Three models have a readability of 0.01 g: the PLS 4200-2F, 6200-2A and 8000-2A. The PLS 20000-1F weighs up to 20,000 g at 0.1 g. Kern describes the series as precision balances with convenient graphic display and large weighing range.

Model selection by weighing range

The three models with ring-shaped draught shield weigh up to 1,200 g and read to the milligram. The three models with 0.01 g range between 4,200 g and 8,200 g, including the PLS 8000-2A with a weighing range of 8,200 g and a stabilisation time of 4 s. The PLS 20000-1F covers the range up to 20,000 g, has a rectangular weighing pan of 200 x 175 mm and a USP minimum sample weight of 200 g. Four models (PLS 720-3A, 1200-3A, 6200-2A, 8000-2A) use force compensation, whilst three (PLS 420-3F, 4200-2F, 20000-1F) use strain gauges. The force-compensated models weigh approximately 4.8 kg, whilst the others weigh approximately 3.2 kg.

Adjustment with an external weight

The PLS is adjusted using an external weight. The CAL adjustment programme guides through the procedure; suitable test weights are available at extra cost. The PLJ series, on the other hand, has an internal automatic adjustment function. This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below).

Formulations, counting and documentation

Up to 99 formulations, each with up to 20 ingredients including their names and target values, can be stored in the formulation database. The graphic display shows plain text and guides the user through the input process. A high-stability mode and further filter settings serve as a dosing aid. The balance counts pieces (reference piece counts 10, 25, 50, 100 or free entry), determines percentages and density and forms an average under unstable weighing conditions. When weighing within a tolerance range, an audible and a visual signal provide feedback. GLP/ISO logging records value, date and time and is output via the standard RS-232 interface.

Draught shield and assembly

The PLS 420-3F, 720-3A and 1200-3A have a ring-shaped glass draught shield; the weighing chamber measures Ø 150 mm by 60 mm in height, and the balance is 160 mm high. The remaining four models are 120 mm high and, according to Kern, do not have a draught shield. The plastic housing measures 210 x 340 x 120 mm (W x D x H). On the PLS 420-3F, 720-3A and 1200-3A, the stainless steel weighing pan has a diameter of 110 mm; on the PLS 4200-2F, 6200-2A and 8000-2A, it is 160 mm. For all seven models, an eyelet for below-balance weighing is included in the scope of delivery.

Typical applications

  • Laboratory applications: weighing of samples, chemicals and standards
  • Research and development: formulations from the database with target values
  • Jewellery and precious metals testing: density determination, weighing in grams and carats
  • Environmental analysis: weighing samples with GLP/ISO protocol
  • Electronics industry: counting and weighing of components and containers

The PLS 420-3F, 720-3A and 1200-3A are intended for small weighing in up to 1,200 g at 1 mg. Anyone weighing larger items up to 20,000 g at 0.1 g takes the PLS 20000-1F.
