The Kern PNJ 12000-1M is a precision balance with a tuning fork weighing system for weighing up to 12,000 g. It reads to 0.1 g, and the stabilisation time is 3 s. The stainless steel platform measures 190 x 190 mm, and the plastic housing measures 196 x 293 x 89 mm. A conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is optional and available ex works only. The verification value is then e = 1 g, the accuracy class is II, and the minimum load is 5 g.
Tuning fork weighing system and internal adjustment
According to Kern, the tuning fork system displays the weight reading quickly and is mechanically robust. According to the data sheet, the balance adjusts itself automatically using an internal weight. This does not replace a calibration certificate, which is available separately (see below). Reproducibility is 0.1 g, linearity ± 0.2 g and USP minimum sample weight 200 g.
Display, counting and checking
The LCD has 16.5 mm high digits; according to the data sheet, operation is via a symbol language. A capacity display shows as a rising bar how much of the weighing range is still free. For piece counting, the reference piece counts are 10, 30, 50 and 100. The automatic reference optimisation gradually improves the average value of the unit weight. The minimum unit weight is 100 mg under laboratory conditions and 1 g under standard conditions. In addition, there are percentage determination, weighing with tolerance range (visual signal) and switchable units, including g, lb and oz. The GLP/ISO logging outputs value and time via the standard RS-232 interface.
Compact design
At 89 mm high, the balance is flat and weighs about 3.8 kg. Kern describes the compact dimensions as advantageous in limited space and the stainless steel weighing plate as large and shock-resistant. The plug-in mains adaptor operates at 220 V to 240 V AC at 50 Hz and comes with country adaptors for EU, AUS, UK, US and CH. The ambient temperature may be between 5 °C and 40 °C, the humidity up to 80 %.

Conformity assessment and calibration
A conformity assessment under the NAWI Directive (2014/31/EU) is optional (item no. 965-217). It can only be ordered ex works together with the balance; according to Kern, a subsequent conformity assessment is not possible. To place an order, Kern needs the full address of the installation site. A DAkkS calibration certificate (item no. 963-128) can be ordered separately. The confirmation of manufacturer specification (969-517) is only available in conjunction with the DAkkS calibration certificate.
Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, this device comes with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
