LAUDA Puridest PD 4 G Glass Distillation Apparatus, 4 L/h, Conductivity 2.2 µS/cm, L003018

Product information "LAUDA Puridest PD 4 G Glass Distillation Apparatus, 4 L/h, Conductivity 2.2 µS/cm, L003018"

For those in the laboratory who need fresh, high-purity water every day for dilutions and sample preparations, but have neither the space for a large storage tank nor the time for labour-intensive maintenance, the Puridest PD 4 G offers a simple introduction to glass distillation. This mono distillation apparatus from the LAUDA Puridest range distils up to 4 litres of water per hour and allows the entire process to be viewed through a shatterproof, non-misting front pane. The distillation flask and condenser are made of Duran borosilicate glass 3.3, whilst the heating rods are sheathed in quartz glass.

Visible distillation process through glass

The operating principle of the PD 4 G has been deliberately kept simple. Raw water flows through a solenoid valve into the distillation flask, is heated and then condenses in a condenser section designed to prevent droplet formation. A CO₂ degassing port on the condenser, together with an electronic contamination monitor which, if necessary, automatically triggers a water change to clean the distillation flask, ensures low-maintenance operation. An electronic level monitoring system operates throughout the entire distillation process and automatically switches off the heating if there is a lack of water in the evaporator. The condenser section is sterilised by steam, without the need to dismantle the unit.

Connection and cooling water requirements

The PD 4 G operates from a 230-volt socket and draws a maximum of 3 kilowatts; the mains cable terminates in an angled Schuko plug according to CEE7/7. Cooling requires 1.2 litres of cooling water per minute, with a minimum pressure differential of 3 bar and a maximum permissible pressure of 7 bar at the connection. The inlet and drain for the water cooling system are designed for a 1/2-inch diameter hose. The unit does not have a storage tank; the mono-distillate, with a conductivity of 2.2 µS/cm at 25 °C, drains directly via the hose connection on the right-hand side of the unit.

Typical applications

  • Production of high-purity mono-distillate for diluting reagents and preparing samples
  • Sample preparation and quality assurance in research and development
  • Routine analytical work where the distillation process needs to remain visible
  • Wall-mounted or benchtop installation in smaller laboratories without a dedicated storage tank

Series overview

The Puridest series comprises six mono distillation apparatuses covering capacities from 4 to 12 litres per hour, available with either stainless steel or glass contact materials. For those requiring a higher distillate output per hour, the Puridest PD 8 G offers the same glass construction with a capacity of 8 litres per hour. If a lower conductivity is required, for example for cell or tissue cultures, the Puridest PD 4 D operates in a two-stage process and achieves 1.6 µS/cm; the Puridest PD 4 DG combines this two-stage bi-distillation with an all-glass construction. Those who prefer stainless steel to glass will find the same performance class in a stainless steel version with the Puridest PD 4 R.

Warranty and procurement service

LAUDA provides a standard 12-month manufacturer’s warranty on this device from the date of purchase. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.

For the day-to-day operation of the PD 4 G, the most important items are the connection hoses for the cooling water supply and, depending on the installation location, a wall bracket. Our procurement service will, on request, compile a list of suitable accessories and spare parts for the Puridest series and can also advise on whether, for a specific application, the 8-litre model, a bi-distillation variant or a stainless steel model from the same series would be the more suitable choice.
