Product information "LAUDA Puridest PD 8 D Double-Distillation Unit, 8 L/h, Conductivity 1.6 µS/cm, L003022"
If a laboratory requires larger quantities of low-conductivity bi-distillate, for example, for the simultaneous preparation of several cell culture batches, the PD 8 D is the higher-performance model within the two-stage Puridest range. It delivers up to 8 litres of bi-distillate per hour with a conductivity of 1.6 µS/cm after the second stage. As with the smaller model, the first stage is made of stainless steel, whilst the second stage is made of Duran borosilicate glass 3.3.
Higher throughput whilst retaining the two-stage design
To achieve double the throughput of the PD 4 D, the PD 8 D operates with a heating power of 11.5 kilowatts. The operating principle remains the same: a main switch with indicator lights shows the status of both distillation stages; the mono-distillate from the first stage can be collected separately via a borosilicate glass stopcock with a PTFE plug, and the finished bi-distillate flows freely through a borosilicate glass dust protection bell. An electronic contamination monitoring system for the distillation flask stops the distillation if necessary and displays a visual cleaning prompt; an electronic level monitoring system monitors the entire process.
Connected load specifications and cooling water requirements
The PD 8 D requires a three-phase power supply of 400 volts, 3/N/PE at 50 or 60 hertz, connected via a red CEE plug (IEC 60309, 5-pin, 16 A). Cooling water consumption is 3.3 litres per minute; the pressure differential must be at least 3 bar and must not exceed 7 bar. The tubular heating elements and the first-stage distillation flask are made of stainless steel, whilst the second-stage condenser is made of Duran borosilicate glass 3.3 with a splash guard, protected by a dual low-water safety system comprising a float switch and a thermostatic over-temperature protection switch.
Installation and weight
Measuring 700 x 390 x 700 millimetres and weighing 48 kilograms net, the PD 8 D requires significantly more installation space than the smaller PD 4 D. The double-walled housing, made of galvanised, powder-coated sheet steel, is suitable for both wall mounting and placement on a sturdy laboratory bench, provided that the supply lines for three-phase current and cooling water are already in place at the intended location. For dispatch, a gross weight of 54 kilograms is to be expected, with packaging dimensions of 0.85 x 0.86 x 0.57 metres.
Typical applications
- Bacteriological and medical sample preparation with higher daily requirements
- Parallel preparation of multiple cell and tissue culture batches
- Cleaning and sterilisation processes in the laboratory
- Preparation of buffer solutions in quality assurance, development and research
Series overview
Within the two-stage Puridest range, the PD 8 D is the higher-performance variant compared to the Puridest PD 4 D, which has a capacity of 4 litres per hour. For those who do not require a second distillation stage at 8 litres per hour, the Puridest PD 8 G offers the same performance class as a pure single-stage glass distillation unit. If you are looking for a fully glass-constructed unit with two stages but at a lower capacity, this is covered by the Puridest PD 4 DG. For a stainless steel version in the same single-stage performance class, the Puridest PD 8 R is available.

Warranty and procurement service
LAUDA provides a standard 12-month manufacturer’s warranty on this appliance from the date of purchase. Your statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
Given the net weight of 48 kilograms and the three-phase power connection, it is worth checking the installation space and electrical installation at the site of use before placing your order. Our procurement service can, on request, put together suitable accessories and spare parts for the Puridest series and also advise on whether the smaller PD 4 D or a pure mono version is sufficient for your specific requirements.
