Product information "Liebherr EFL 6056, chest freezer, 542 L, with stainless steel lid"
Liebherr EFL 6056 As a high-capacity chest freezer with a net capacity of 542 litres, it represents a thermodynamically optimised solution for long-term cryopreservation and sample storage in industrial and laboratory-based environments. Unlike vertical freezer systems, this chest freezer model utilises the physical advantages of the principle of air density: as cold air has a higher specific density than warm air, the cold reservoir remains stable within the inner chamber when the stainless-steel lid is opened. This significantly minimises the increase in entropy and the thermal stress on the stored goods. Equipped with FrostProtect technology, the system is specified for ambient temperatures of up to –15 °C, which physically enables its use in thermally unregulated areas such as storage rooms or logistics areas without compromising the integrity of the refrigeration cycle.
Thermodynamics of static cooling and refrigerant kinetics
The efficiency of the Liebherr EFL 6056 is based on a static cooling system characterised by extensive heat absorption via the internal walls. By eliminating forced air circulation, the drying out (sublimation) of unpackaged samples is reduced and a high degree of temperature stability within the range of -14 °C to -24 °C is ensured. The refrigerant used, R 600a (isobutane), offers outstanding thermodynamic properties and a negligible Global Warming Potential (GWP), enabling efficient enthalpy transfer with minimal power consumption of just 307 kWh per year. The mechanical control via an analogue rotary knob offers high reliability against electromagnetic interference, whilst the external analogue temperature display allows metrological monitoring without energy loss caused by opening the lid.
Materials science and mechanical system limitations
The choice of materials for the Liebherr EFL 6056 reflects the requirements for mechanical durability and hygiene standards. The lid, made of high-quality stainless steel, serves as a robust work surface and offers excellent resistance to abrasive stresses and chemical cleaning agents. The inner container, made of pre-coated steel, is optimised for high mechanical loads and, thanks to its surface finish, is easy to decontaminate. To support internal logistics and optimise access times, up to 8 hanging baskets can be integrated, with 3 baskets already included as standard. The mobility of the 89 kg system is ensured by integrated swivel castors, whilst a mechanical lock physically prevents unauthorised access to the biological or chemical cargo.
Metrological safety and infrastructural integration
In laboratory-based applications, noise emissions are a critical factor for workplace quality; the Liebherr EFL 6056 emits a sound power level of just 33 dB(A), making it one of the quietest units in its class. The SN-ST climate class certifies that the unit operates safely within a wide temperature range of +10 °C to +38 °C in accordance with the Energy Directive, whilst the FrostProtect extension lowers the lower limit to -15 °C. An integrated defrost water drain facilitates manual defrosting by enabling the controlled drainage of melt water, thereby reducing maintenance intervals. The LED lighting concept ensures thermally neutral illumination of the interior without introducing additional heat energy into the system, which further optimises the thermodynamic balance.
