Not every laboratory needs a large upright freezer straight away; sometimes a compact freezer is sufficient for a side room, a second site or a smaller facility. The Liebherr SFCse 801 is a compact freezer for temperatures ranging from -12 °C to -28 °C, with a net capacity of 59 l, which can be placed on a worktop or in a corner of the room. With external dimensions of just 68 x 55 x 61 cm (H x W x D), it is the most compact freezer in Liebherr’s current laboratory range.

Compact freezer for flexible placement

With a net weight of 32.70 kg and packaging dimensions of 56.7 x 71.1 x 73.2 cm, the SFCse 801 can be transported with minimal effort and set up in almost any location. The two storage shelves inside the unit (internal dimensions 49.0 x 38.0 x 41.0 cm) provide basic organisation for smaller quantities of frozen goods. The recessed handle and the two fixed feet are designed for a simple, robust and compact unit rather than for extensive accessories.

Important note regarding certification

Unlike the other Liebherr laboratory freezers, the SFCse 801 has been tested in accordance with the safety standards for domestic refrigeration appliances, IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-89, and not in accordance with the laboratory standards series IEC 61010. For applications where certification to IEC 61010 is mandatory, the SFCse 801 is therefore not the right choice. For all other applications where such formal certification is not required, it nevertheless offers a solid basic specification, featuring a digital temperature display, visual and audible alarm signals in the event of a fault, and a retrofittable Wi-Fi/LAN interface.

Manufactured at the Liebherr plant in Marica

Like its refrigeration counterpart, the SRCse 801, the SFCse 801 is manufactured at the Liebherr plant in Marica, Bulgaria, whilst most other Liebherr laboratory appliances are produced at the Lienz plant. This does not affect the manufacturer’s brand or quality standards; both plants are part of Liebherr-Hausgeräte GmbH.

Performance Class: robust basic features

The SFCse 801 belongs to the Performance Class of the Liebherr laboratory range and features deliberately simple, basic mechanical functions: manual defrosting, a mechanical door lock and a digital temperature display instead of a networked touchscreen control panel. This makes the appliance low-maintenance and easy to use, without the need to familiarise oneself with complex menus. Those who require automatic defrosting and a fixed network connection instead will find this in Liebherr’s Perfection class, for example in the SFFvh or SFTvh freestanding models.

Operation and features in detail

The temperature is displayed on an external digital display, whilst the appliance signals faults both visually and audibly. Defrosting is carried out manually, and an LED interior light ensures good visibility when the door is opened. The door can be mechanically locked and is available with a right- or left-hand hinge. If required, a Wi-Fi/LAN interface can be retrofitted to integrate the appliance into an existing network. The housing and door are made of steel, whilst the inner compartment is made of white plastic.

Robust construction, compact transport

The steel housing and door ensure a durable, robust construction that requires little maintenance even during continuous operation. As the SFCse 801, with a net weight of 32.70 kg, is significantly lighter than the floor-standing units in the Liebherr laboratory range, it can be carried to its destination without the need for a pallet truck or hand trolley, a practical advantage when navigating an adjoining room or a narrow corridor. The compact packaging dimensions of 56.7 x 71.1 x 73.2 cm also fit through most standard doors, which significantly simplifies on-site installation.

According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the ISO 7 cleanroom class and GMP Class C classification place the SFCse 801 in the category of laboratory refrigeration units with moderate requirements for ambient cleanliness, typical for the general storage of frozen goods without pharmaceutical sterile production. For facilities that do not require higher cleanroom classes, this is a sensible and cost-effective standard.

Typical applications

The SFCse 801 is suitable wherever a compact supplementary unit is required for smaller quantities of frozen goods, without certification to the IEC 61010 series of laboratory standards being mandatory. For example, it allows additional deep-freeze capacity to be quickly created in an adjoining room or at a second site without having to install a full-size freestanding unit straight away. The SFCse 801 also excels in training facilities or smaller businesses where formal laboratory certification is not a requirement, thanks to its compact footprint, low weight and simple, mechanical operation without the need for complex set-up.
