Liebherr SFFfg 4001 laboratory freezer with drawers, ignition-source-free interior, 190 l, 091628651

Product information "Liebherr SFFfg 4001 laboratory freezer with drawers, ignition-source-free interior, 190 l, 091628651"

For those who wish to deep-freeze flammable substances in the laboratory in a manner that eliminates ignition sources, whilst at the same time organising them systematically by sample type, the Liebherr SFFfg 4001 Model 740 offers a version with six drawers in addition to the five glass shelves. The safety features remain unchanged: according to the type plate, the interior is free from ignition sources, which means the unit remains suitable for laboratories with ATEX-relevant storage conditions. The installation of the drawers reduces the usable net volume from 242 to 190 litres, as the guide rails and drawer sides themselves take up space; the gross volume of 316 litres remains unchanged.

Six drawers for organised sample separation

In addition to the five adjustable glass shelves, each of which carries 40 kg according to the datasheet, six drawers are fitted in the freezer compartment. For laboratories that need to store different substance classes neatly separated from one another, such as different groups of solvents or batches from different projects, this offers a practical advantage over open shelves, on which sample containers can more easily become mixed up or tip over.

Safety: ignition-source-free interior according to ATEX

The ignition-source-free interior also makes the drawer version of the SFFfg 4001 a suitable choice for laboratories that need to store flammable solvents, chemicals or other substances where no ignition sources are permitted inside the unit. Certification according to IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1 applies to this version in the same way as for the standard variant with shelves, as do the ISO 5 cleanroom class according to EN ISO 14644-1 and the GMP Class B documented in the product data sheet.

Technology and cooling capacity

The temperature is displayed digitally on the outside and can be set within a range of -9 °C to -30 °C, with a permitted ambient temperature of +10 °C to 35 °C, identical to the standard version. SmartFrost refrigeration technology ensures even temperature distribution inside the unit, even with the additional drawers. In the event of a fault, the unit issues visual and audible warnings; via a retrofittable Wi-Fi/LAN interface, the freezer can be integrated into an existing laboratory network if required.

Ease of use and installation

The antimicrobial handle with integrated opening mechanism makes operation easier, even when wearing gloves; the door hinge is on the right but can be reversed. With external dimensions of 188.4 x 59.7 x 65.4 cm (H x W x D), identical to the standard model, and a net weight of 84.90 kg, the unit is designed for a fixed installation in the laboratory. The power cable is approximately 3 metres long; a standard laboratory power supply of 220 to 240 V and 2.0 A is sufficient. Defrosting is carried out manually.

Durability and energy efficiency

With an annual energy consumption of 384 kWh, the drawer version remains just as economical in continuous operation as the standard variant; according to the manufacturer’s specifications, the additional drawers have no effect on energy consumption. Particularly in laboratories where the unit is in operation round the clock, low energy consumption has a noticeable impact on running costs, without compromising the safety of the ignition-source-free interior.

Manufacturing and documentation

The drawer version of the SFFfg 4001 is also manufactured at the Liebherr plant in Lienz, which specialises in refrigeration and freezing technology for laboratories and the healthcare sector. A dedicated product data sheet is available for the 740 version for quality assurance and tenders in the laboratory sector, supplemented by the joint operating instructions for the SFFfg series, which provide clear documentation of the safety-relevant features. This simplifies the internal approval process when a laboratory procures a new freezer with a structured compartment layout for Ex zones, for example as part of a tender with safety requirements that must be documented.

Typical areas of application

The drawer-equipped version is particularly suitable for laboratories that wish to store flammable samples not only in an ignition-source-free environment but also organised by substance class or project, for example where several research groups use the same unit and mix-ups must be avoided.

  • Deep-freeze storage of flammable solvents requiring organised compartment separation
  • Multiple research groups or projects requiring separate sample storage within the same unit
  • Research and quality control laboratories requiring documented temperature monitoring
  • Replacement of older models such as the LGex 3410, where open shelves were previously used
