Anyone who needs to reliably maintain very low temperatures down to -35 °C in the laboratory, whilst being able to document at all times whether the cold chain has been maintained, needs more than just a simple freezer. The Liebherr SFFvh 4001 is a Perfection-class laboratory deep-freezer with a net capacity of 174 l, NoFrost forced-air cooling and monitoring features that are also suitable for samples subject to documentation requirements.

NoFrost forced-air cooling without manual defrosting

Unlike the statically cooled Performance units in the LT Laborhandel range, the SFFvh 4001 operates with dynamic forced-air cooling and an automatic NoFrost defrosting system, completely eliminating the need for tedious manual defrosting. The temperature range extends from -9 °C to -35 °C, and the unit is operated via a touch-and-swipe interface. Annual energy consumption is 292 kWh; this represents a slight increase in cost compared with the smaller under-counter units in the LT Laborhandel range, reflecting the higher cooling capacity and the elimination of manual defrosting.

Monitoring and alarm functions in accordance with DIN 13277

The SFFvh 4001 meets the requirements of DIN 13277 for refrigeration and freezing units used in laboratories. Faults are indicated visually and audibly; in the event of a power cut, the mains failure alarm is triggered immediately and is buffered for at least 12 hours. An alarm history logs past faults, and an additional product sensor can be retrofitted if required. The integrated, removable Wi-Fi/LAN interface connects the unit directly to an existing laboratory network without the need to retrofit any accessories.

Interior layout for 174 l net volume

The interior (internal dimensions 140.0 x 42.0 x 40.0 cm) features 7 shelving levels, 6 of which are height-adjustable, allowing the layout to be flexibly adapted to different container sizes. The plastic inner container is easy to clean and recyclable. The antimicrobial handle with opening mechanism and the LED interior lighting facilitate daily access; the door is mechanically lockable and can be hinged on either the right or left-hand side.

New model alongside the SFFvh 5501

The SFFvh 4001 complements the already established SFFvh 5501 with a more compact model from the same Perfection series, featuring identical specifications in terms of NoFrost, DIN 13277 and network connectivity. According to the product data sheet, the unit is designed for cleanroom use in accordance with ISO EN 14644-1 (ISO Class 7) and complies with GMP Class B; it is also certified to IEC 60068-3, IEC 61010-1, IEC 61010-2-011 and IEC 61326-1.

Robust construction for continuous operation

The housing and door are made of steel, designed for continuous operation in everyday laboratory use over many years. With a net weight of 81.80 kg and external dimensions of 188.4 x 59.7 x 65.4 cm, this is a genuine floor-standing unit that remains firmly in place at its installation site; with a unit width of 64.2 cm when the door is open, there is still sufficient space to move around in front of it even when the interior is full. Two fixed feet ensure a secure footing.

The annual energy consumption of 292 kWh is within the expected range for an appliance of this size and cooling capacity; whilst this represents a slight increase compared to statically cooled appliances, it is offset by the elimination of manual defrosting and the greater temperature stability offered by NoFrost technology.

Perfection Class: greater automation than in Performance models

The SFFvh 4001 belongs to Liebherr’s Perfection Class and thus differs significantly from the simpler Performance models in the LT Laborhandel range, such as the SFCse 801 or SFUfg 1001: automatic NoFrost defrosting instead of manual defrosting, a touch-and-swipe user interface instead of a purely digital display, and a pre-installed network connection rather than one that can only be retrofitted. For laboratories requiring this additional level of automation and documentation reliability, the Perfection class is the right choice, even though it differs from the more affordable Performance class in terms of energy consumption and purchase price.

The SFFvh 4001 is suitable for research laboratories and quality assurance departments that need to store samples requiring deep-freezing in accordance with standards and must be able to provide a complete record of the temperature history in the event of a fault.
