Macherey-Nagel glass fibre filter paper circles MN 85/90 BF, binder-free, 0.5 µm (Ø 25–270 mm), 185 mm

Product information "Macherey-Nagel glass fibre filter paper circles MN 85/90 BF, binder-free, 0.5 µm (Ø 25–270 mm), 185 mm"

Determining suspended solids in a water sample means filtering, drying and weighing. The Macherey-Nagel MN 85/90 BF glass fibre filter circles are intended for this. They consist of borosilicate glass microfibres without binder and, according to the data sheet, are suitable for the determination of suspended solids according to DIN EN 872:2005. The average retention capacity is 0.5 µm and the maximum temperature is 500 °C.

Binder-free glass fibre filter circles for oven and balance

In gravimetric methods, the filter is weighed before and after filtration. Macherey-Nagel explicitly names weighing by difference as an application of this type. Without a binder, the filter has no organic component that could lose mass at higher temperatures. The thickness is 0.51 mm with a grammage of 90 g/m², and the filtration speed is 15 s.

Thermally and chemically robust

Macherey-Nagel describes binder-free glass microfibre filters as thermally and chemically resistant. They are therefore also used for dust filtration in air and hot exhaust gases. The manufacturer describes its glass fibre filter papers made of 100 % borosilicate glass as suitable for aggressive media such as strong acids and bases.

MN 85/90 BF or MN 85/90 with binder

Retention capacity (0.5 µm) and grammage (90 g/m²) are the same for both types. The version with binder is thicker at 0.6 mm and, according to Macherey-Nagel, mechanically more stable, but it withstands only 200 °C. If you work in an oven or filter aggressive solutions, use the BF. If you filter in general and do not exceed 200 °C, you can stay with the MN 85/90 with binder.

Typical applications

  • Determination of suspended solids in water and wastewater according to DIN EN 872:2005
  • Gravimetric analyses with weighing by difference
  • Filtration of aggressive solutions where an organic binder would interfere
  • Dust filtration in air and hot exhaust gases

Available diameters

13 diameters from 25 to 270 mm are available. Compared with the MN 85/90 with binder, the 320 mm diameter is not available here, but there is a 47 mm. The table lists the manufacturer’s item number for each diameter.
