With an internal volume of 966 litres, the Memmert ULT1000 is the largest model in the ULT series and can accommodate up to 770 2-inch cryoboxes at temperatures between -50 and -86 °C. For sites wishing to store large quantities of samples permanently in a single unit, this is the model with the highest capacity.
The largest model in the ULT series
With external dimensions of 1,285 x 1,992 x 973 millimetres and a net weight of around 425 kilograms, the ULT1000 is the most substantial unit in the series. The internal dimensions are 1,035 x 1,276 x 732 millimetres; when packed, the unit weighs approximately 590 kilograms and measures 1,440 x 2,250 x 1,080 millimetres. Compared with the next-smallest model, the ULT750, the internal width increases from 890 to 1,035 millimetres and the internal depth from 627 to 732 millimetres, whilst the internal height is slightly lower at 1,276 millimetres instead of 1,345 millimetres. This means the ULT1000 can hold up to 770 2-inch boxes, compared with 576.
Controls and operation
The unit is operated via the 7-inch touchscreen, which is ergonomically integrated into the outer door. The temperature can be set with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C and is monitored by a Pt1000 sensor. Ethernet LAN and USB interfaces are available; in the event of a power failure, a backup battery takes over the alarm and monitoring functions.
Loading and safety for high-volume applications
With a maximum total load of 440 kilograms and 220 kilograms per shelf, the ULT1000 can handle the heaviest loads in the series. Two stainless steel internal doors and three height-adjustable shelf levels divide the interior into four sections; a door-open detection system signals when doors are open, and the battery-backed alarm system provides visual and audible alerts, even in the event of a power failure.
Transport and installation
With a gross weight of around 590 kilograms in the carton and packaging dimensions of 1,440 x 2,250 x 1,080 millimetres, delivery of the ULT1000 must be planned in advance, particularly with regard to door widths and lift dimensions at the installation site. This model, too, must only be transported in an upright position. At the destination, the castors allow for precise positioning, after which the unit is locked into place.
When the ULT750 is the better choice
If the capacity of 576 boxes is permanently not exceeded, the smaller ULT750, with its noticeably smaller footprint and lower weight, will suffice. Only when more than 576 boxes are to be stored at a single location does the additional space required by the ULT1000 become justified.
