With an internal capacity of 750 litres, the Memmert ULT750 meets the needs of centralised sample collection facilities that rely on a single large ultra-low temperature freezer rather than several smaller units. It can accommodate up to 576 2-inch cryoboxes at temperatures between -50 and -86 °C.
Large-capacity unit for centralised sample collections
With a cabinet width of 1,140 millimetres, the ULT750 is significantly wider than the three smaller models in the series, whilst having an external height of 2,000 and an external depth of 888 millimetres. The internal dimensions are 890 x 1,345 x 627 millimetres; the net weight is around 380 kilograms, and the packed weight is approximately 550 kilograms.
Cooling system and temperature control
Two cascade-connected compressors cool the large interior; the first stage uses the refrigerant R455A, the second R170, with an air-cooled condenser. The temperature can be set with a setting accuracy of 0.1 °C and is monitored by a Pt1000 sensor; operation is via the 7-inch touchscreen in the outer door. Ethernet LAN and USB are available as interfaces.
Safety under heavy loads
The unit is designed for a maximum total load of 400 kilograms and 200 kilograms per shelf; three height-adjustable shelves and two stainless steel internal doors divide the interior into four sections. A door-open detection system, a battery-backed alarm system with visual and audible alerts, and a side pressure relief vent with a diameter of 26 millimetres ensure safe operation, even in the event of a power cut.
Transport and installation
With a cabinet width of 1,140 millimetres and a gross weight of around 550 kilograms in its carton, delivery of the ULT750 requires more space than for the smaller models in the series; and, like all ULT models, the unit must only be transported in an upright position. On site, it can be moved into position using its castors and locked in place; when packed, it measures 1,410 x 2,220 x 1,080 millimetres.
ULT500 or ULT1000: finding the right capacity
If it is unlikely that the capacity of 384 boxes will be exceeded, the narrower ULT500 saves a noticeable amount of floor space compared with the ULT750. If, on the other hand, it is already clear that more than 576 boxes will be stored, the ULT1000, with a capacity of 966 litres, is closer to the actual final configuration than retrofitting a second unit at short notice.
