The Memmert ULT750eco ultra-low temperature freezer cools to between minus 50 and minus 86 °C and, with an internal volume of 750 litres, has space for up to 576 2-inch cryoboxes. This size is suitable for biobanking with high storage requirements and, with a footprint of 1,140 by 888 millimetres, it requires more floor space than the three smaller models in the eco series.
750 litres for centralised biobanks and multiple user groups
The unit can support a total load of up to 400 kilograms, with each of the three height-adjustable shelves capable of bearing up to 200 kilograms. Two stainless-steel internal doors divide the interior into four sections, which helps multiple user groups to clearly organise samples and only partially open the interior when accessing them. The ULT750eco is mounted on castors that can be locked in place and must be transported in an upright position.
Cooling capacity with two inverter compressors
The cascade cooling system comprises two inverter compressors, R290 in the first stage and R170 in the second stage, with an air-cooled condenser. The cooling system is designed for precise temperature control and high energy efficiency. The standard ULT750 model, which is the same size, operates without inverter compressors and uses the refrigerant R455A in the first stage.
User interface and data connectivity
The 7-inch touchscreen in the outer door controls the temperature to an accuracy of 0.1 °C and displays the chamber status. A Pt1000 sensor continuously monitors the temperature, whilst a visual and audible alarm immediately signals any deviations. Ethernet LAN and USB interfaces are fitted as standard; remote monitoring is available as an option.
Alarms, door and pressure equalisation
The insulated stainless-steel outer door, fitted with a mechanical lock and door-open detection, secures the spacious interior, particularly when several people have regular access. There is a 26-millimetre-diameter feed-through or pressure relief opening on the side. In the event of a power cut, the alarm and monitoring systems remain active via the backup battery.
When is it worth upgrading to the ULT1000eco?
If the 576 boxes of the ULT750eco are no longer sufficient for the expected period, or if an even larger biobank is to be consolidated into a single unit, the ULT1000eco, with a capacity of 966 litres and 770 boxes, is the logical upgrade. Those who can manage with 576 boxes save on floor space compared with the largest model in the range: the ULT750eco is 145 millimetres narrower and 85 millimetres shallower.
