The Nabertherm tube furnace RS 120/500/11 is a hinged (split-type) benchtop furnace with 500 mm heated length and Tmax 1,100 °C, designed as standard for horizontal operation and, with an optional frame, also usable vertically. It is controlled via the C550 touch controller in the external switch cabinet, on which the furnace rests during horizontal operation.
Construction and tube dimensions
The working tube accommodates a maximum outer diameter of 120 mm, the heated length is 500 mm. In the standard single-zone version, the length with constant temperature is 170 mm, with the optionally available three-zone version it would be 250 mm. Closed and resting on the switch cabinet, the furnace measures 670 x 515 x 590 mm, the separate switch cabinet measures 600 x 450 x 218 mm. The weight is 56 kg, the connection is three-phase at 6.7 kW. For the optionally available three-zone version, a neutral conductor is additionally required, the connection then changes to 3/N/PE.
Hinged (split-type) housing
Instead of a classic furnace door, the housing can be hinged open, which makes it easier to insert the working tube. It may only be opened below 180 °C. The heating elements are arranged on support tubes and radiate freely. The scope of delivery includes a ceramic working tube made of C 530 material with two fibre plugs for operation in air, plus a 2 metre long connecting cable in a metal protective hose. The insulation materials used are without classification under Regulation (EG) Nr. 1272/2008, aluminium silicate wool (RCF fibres) is not used.
Controller C550
The C550 controller has a touch display and stores up to 10 programs with 20 segments each, this also allows multi-stage temperature profiles with different heating and holding times per program to be mapped. Depending on the temperature class, a type N thermocouple (up to 1,100 °C) or type S (up to 1,300 °C) is used for measurement, for the RS 120/500/11 this is type N.
Selection guide
Anyone who needs a higher temperature class up to 1,300 °C will find the same size in the RS series also as RS 120/500/13. Shorter or longer heated lengths between 250 and 1,000 mm are also available in the series, see table below. For working tubes with a different diameter, tube adapter shells can be ordered as a factory option, a charge control with temperature measurement directly in the working tube is also available as an option. With the optional conversion frame, the RS 120/500/11 can be converted from horizontal to vertical operation.
Typical applications
The RS 120/500/11 is a hinged (split-type) tube furnace for working tubes up to 120 mm outer diameter and temperatures up to 1,100 °C. With gas supply packages 1, 1.5 or 2, it can be equipped as a factory option for operation under non-flammable process gases, with gas supply package 4 for hydrogen applications and with the vacuum package for processes in an evacuated working tube.
