At 30 m length, 0.25 mm inner diameter and 0.25 µm film thickness, the Rxi-17Sil MS 14123 is the longer of the two Rxi-17Sil MS columns in the shop. It is one of the crosslinked phases of medium polarity and is intended for active environmental compounds such as PAHs and for MS detectors.
About the phase
Rxi-17Sil MS is characterised by high inertness and selectivity as well as low column bleed. The polarity is intermediate, and the USP phase class is G3. The tube material is fused silica, and the phase is crosslinked.
Agilent DB-17ms, Phenomenex ZB-50 and Quadrex 007-17MS are comparable phases. Comparable part numbers are Agilent 122-4732 and CP8982 as well as Phenomenex 7HG-G004-11.
Temperatures
Usable from 40 °C, and starting conditions have to be set accordingly. Upwards, 340 °C isothermal and 360 °C in a temperature program are permitted. This applies equally to both lengths of the Rxi-17Sil MS, including the value 40 °C as the lower limit.
Notes on the dimensions
This column measures 30 m in length, 0.25 mm in inner diameter and carries a phase film 0.25 µm thick. Crosslinked means that the polymer chains of the phase are linked. Isothermal and programmed distinguish the two upper limits: constant oven temperature versus a temperature program.
Choosing the length
The counterpart 14120 has a length of 15 m with the same diameter and film thickness, and this column has twice that. Retention times shift when the length changes, so the method has to be re-checked afterwards.
