The Sauter FH EXT are digital force gauges for tension and compression, in which the load cell is a separate component connected to the display unit via a 2.5 m cable. This allows the cell to be used where the display unit does not fit, for example in the test set-up or in tight fixtures. The series comprises four models for low forces: FH 50 EXT (50 N, 0.01 N), FH 100 EXT (100 N, 0.05 N), FH 200 EXT (200 N, 0.1 N) and FH 500 EXT (500 N, 0.1 N). Tension eyelets, compression plates and a carrying case are included in the scope of delivery.
Load cell for small loads
The devices measure with a sampling rate of 2 kHz and an accuracy of 0.5 % of Max. The overload protection is 150 % of Max. For force introduction, the load cell has a hook and an M6 external thread. The readability is fine in the small ranges: the FH 50 EXT shows 0.01 N, the FH 100 EXT 0.05 N.
Limit values, memory and statistics
For pass/fail tests, an upper and a lower limit value are set, separately for tension and compression. An audible and a visual signal report that the limit value is exceeded or undershot. The device displays either the peak value (peak hold) or the current value (track). The internal memory stores up to 10 measured values. The mini statistics package calculates the average from these values and displays the minimum, maximum and the number n. The unit of measurement can be switched, including to N and kgf.
Interfaces and rechargeable battery
USB and RS-232 are standard features. Data is transferred via USB, which also supplies power to the device; according to Kern, the transfer rate to a PC is approximately 25 measured values per second. According to Kern, the built-in NiMH rechargeable battery lasts up to 40 h without backlight and up to 24 h with backlight; the charging time is approximately 120 min. Charging is carried out using the plug-in mains adaptor via the USB-C port. An auto-power-off function switches the device off after 1 to 60 min. The display can be rotated and is backlit.
Adaptors and accessories
For force introduction there are clamps, ball heads, compression plates and special adaptors: a concave one (AC 45), a flat rectangular one (AC 46) and a round one (AC 47), each up to 1 kN. The selection can be found in the section on the procurement service.

Calibration
For the FH EXT, there are factory calibration certificates (item no. 961-161 for tension, 961-261 for compression, 961-361 for tension and compression) and DAkkS calibration certificates (963-161, 963-261, 963-361). The calibration procedure for the DAkkS certificates is DKD-R 3-3 (procedure A).
Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
