The Sauter FS SP1 combine the FS 2 force gauge with an S-type load cell of the CS series (type 3P1) made of nickel-plated steel. The S-shape is the classic design for tensile measurements, but the load cell also measures compressive forces. Seven sets cover the range from 1 kN to 100 kN, each fully assembled. The readability ranges from 0.2 N for the FS 2-1KSP1 to 20 N for the FS 2-100KSP1.
S-type load cell: design and accuracy class
The S-type load cell is a 4-wire load cell for force and mass measurement. It is protected against dust and water according to IP67 (EN 60529), and the rated output is 2 mV/V. Kern specifies the accuracy class according to OIML C3. During a tensile test, the cell is suspended between the suspension point and the test object and can also be subjected to compressive loads.
Models: designation and measuring range
The model numbers deserve a closer look: the FS 2-2KSP1 has the cell CS 250-3P1 and measures up to 2.5 kN. The FS 2-1KSP1 (CS 100-3P1) measures up to 1 kN, whilst the FS 2-5KSP1 (CS 500-3P1) measures up to 5 kN. From 10 kN upwards, the cells are larger: The FS 2-10KSP1 measures 50.8 x 76.2 x 25.4 mm, the FS 2-20KSP1 and FS 2-50KSP1 measure 76.2 x 101.6 x 25.4 mm, and the FS 2-100KSP1 measures 125 x 175 x 50 mm.
FS 2: measuring channels, display, functions
The force gauge has a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a touch pen and two measuring channels. A further two channels can be retrofitted. Because the data of the cell is in the connector, the device puts the cell into operation without manual input. It shows current values (track), captures the peak value and checks against a tolerance. The sampling rate and transmission rate are up to 1,000 Hz per channel. The Kern Communication Protocol (KCP) connects the FS 2 to computers and control systems.
Memory, USB and adjustment
16 GB of device memory stores the measurement series. The values go to a PC via USB, and the device is powered via the same connection. To adjust, you need known weights (two-point adjustment) or enter the values numerically. A Li-ion rechargeable battery powers the FS 2 for up to 8 h without backlight and 5 h with backlight; the charging time is approx. 8 h. The set comes in a Systainer T-LOC with a plug-in mains adaptor and a USB Type-C cable.

Calibration
Factory calibration certificates and DAkkS calibration certificates are available as separate items for each measuring range and force direction (tension, compression, tension and compression). The item numbers are listed in the model table. The calibration procedure for the DAkkS certificates is DKD-R 3-3 (procedure A).
Warranty
According to Kern & Sohn, these devices come with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.

Individual requirements and procurement service
Further load cells of types CO, CR and CS, torque sensors of the DC series, the A/D converter module FS 34, the transport case FS TKZ, screw clamps (AC 14), clamps of the AE series (AE 01 to AE 07) and the power supply adaptor YKA-01 for UK are also available.
