Sauter HDD 100-1 digital Shore hardness tester Shore D, 100 HD / 0.1 HD

Product information "Sauter HDD 100-1 digital Shore hardness tester Shore D, 100 HD / 0.1 HD"

The Sauter HD are digital Shore hardness testers with LCD for determining the hardness of plastics by indentation measurement. There are two models: the HDA 100-1 for Shore A (rubber, elastomers, soft plastics) and the HDD 100-1 for Shore D. Both have a readability of 0.1 and run on two AAA batteries supplied as standard. The measured values can be transferred to a PC via RS-232.

Display and functions

The large LCD screen is backlit and displays the battery charge level. The device can calculate averages, hold measured values (Hold) and record peak values (Peak). The zero function resets the display to zero. The automatic switch-off function can be deactivated, in which case the device operates continuously. According to Kern, the measurement accuracy is 1 % of the final value; the test object must be at least 6 mm thick.

External adjustment and comparison measurements

Accuracy can be adjusted using an external adjustment weight. Kern recommends the HD primarily for internal comparison measurements, as, according to Kern, calibrations according to standards are not possible due to very tight standard tolerances. Anyone comparing measured values from different inspectors or batches should therefore always use the same instrument and the same measurement method.

Test stand and data transmission

Both devices can be mounted on a Sauter test stand: the HDA 100-1 on the TI-ACL (Shore A, test force 10 N), and the HDD 100-1 on the TI-DL (Shore D, test force 50 N). The test stands are also available. The RS-232 interface transmits the values to a PC, for example into a spreadsheet programme such as Microsoft Excel. The ATC-01 software for data transfer is available as an accessory.

Typical applications

  • Plastics engineering: hardness determination of plastic and elastomer parts using indentation measurement
  • Medical technology: hardness testing of elastomer components
  • Automotive industry: hardness testing of seals, hoses and rubber components
  • Packaging industry: hardness testing of plastics and sealing materials
  • Food industry: hardness testing of seals and plastic components

According to Kern, Shore A is used for rubber, elastomers, neoprene, silicone, vinyl, soft plastics, felt, leather and similar materials. For harder plastics, the HDD 100-1 with Shore D is used. If you need special functions such as limit value alarm, measuring time and memory, you will find them in the HE series, which is also available.
