Sauter HEA 100 digital Shore hardness tester Shore A with memory, 100 HA / 0.1 HA

Product information "Sauter HEA 100 digital Shore hardness tester Shore A with memory, 100 HA / 0.1 HA"

The Sauter HE series are digital Shore hardness testers with memory, statistical functions and limit value alarms. They are aimed at inspectors who have to document and evaluate measurement series. The HEA 100 measures on the Shore A scale, whilst the HED 100 measures on the Shore D scale. Both have a readability of 0.1, a measuring range of 100 and are powered by a built-in NiMH rechargeable battery. The scope of delivery includes a test block and a carrying case.

Measuring modes and limit value alarm

The device measures either the average value, the maximum value or the time curve. The measuring time can be set from 0 to 99 seconds, and a workpiece number can also be entered. The limit value function emits an audible and a visual signal as soon as a measured value falls below or exceeds the set limit values. In this way, series tests can be quickly sorted into pass and fail.

Memory, statistics and USB

The internal memory can store up to 500 results. The statistics function analyses the stored measured values, for example as an average or standard deviation. Data is transferred to a PC via the standard USB interface (USB device). The large LCD (32 x 21 mm) is backlit and displays the rechargeable battery level.

Rechargeable battery and power supply

According to the data sheet, the rechargeable battery (NiMH, 3.6 V, 400 mAh) lasts up to 20 h without backlight and up to 8 h with backlight; the charging time is approximately 3 h. When running on rechargeable battery power, the device switches itself off after 2 min. The plug-in mains adaptor (100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz) is supplied with an EU plug; a UK plug is available as an option.

Test stand and comparison measurements

To improve measurement results, the instrument can be mounted on a test stand: the HEA 100 on the TI-HEA, and the HED 100 on the TI-HED. Both test stands are also available. Kern recommends the HE for internal comparison measurements.

Typical applications

  • Plastics engineering: hardness determination of plastics by indentation measurement, with measurement series and statistics
  • Medical technology: hardness testing of elastomer components with documentation of the results
  • Automotive industry: series testing of seals and rubber parts with limit value alarm
  • Packaging industry: recording the hardness of plastics and sealing materials over measurement series
  • Food industry: hardness testing of seals and plastic components

According to Kern, Shore A is used for rubber, elastomers, neoprene, silicone, vinyl, soft plastics, felt, leather and similar materials, whilst Shore D is used for harder plastics. Those who only require the display and data transmission via RS-232 will find both in the more affordable HD series.
