Product information "SAUTER SW 1000 Class 1 sound level meter, data logger, octave band filter"
The Sauter SW 1000 is a Class 1 sound level meter for measurements ranging from 20 dB to 134 dB. It measures and evaluates noise in the workplace, on building sites, at events and outdoors. The device has a microphone with a sensitivity of 50 mV/Pa and covers frequencies from 10 Hz to 20 kHz.
Measuring and evaluating
The available frequency weightings are A, B, C and Z, whilst the time weightings are F (fast), S (slow) and I (impulse). The measurement modes are Lp, Leq, Ln (LN statistics) and Lcpeak. According to Kern, an algorithm enables a standard-compliant dynamic range of more than 123 dB. Three profiles and 14 user-defined measurements can be calculated in parallel using different frequency and time weightings. Integration periods can be set by the user up to a maximum of 24 hours. The display resolution is 0.1 dB.
Octave analysis and trends
The octave function is used for targeted sound analysis. It can be extended to 1/3 octave using the SW-A10 licence. The Track function displays a measurement graphically as a time-history curve. Freely definable limit values trigger a visual alarm signal, whilst the peak-hold function holds the peak value. The calibration mode operates with a calibrator, which is available separately.
Measurement procedure
A measurement can be started and stopped externally via a trigger input (3.5 mm jack). Measurements run automatically using the timer function. The device has an internal memory. The operating languages are English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. There is a 1/4 inch thread on the rear for a tripod.
Power and housing
The sound level meter is powered by a mains adaptor (100 V to 240 V, 50/60 Hz, with EU adapter) or by four AA batteries (1.5 V), which are not included in the scope of delivery. It has a battery life of approximately 10 hours. The plastic casing measures 210 x 80 x 40 mm; with the microphone fitted, the dimensions are 340 x 80 x 40 mm. The unit weighs approximately 0.4 kg net. It is operated at minus 10 °C to 50 °C.
Typical applications
- Health and safety and industry: noise measurement at workstations and on machinery
- Construction and building sites: noise measurement on building sites
- Events and sound engineering: On-site sound level monitoring
- Environmental protection: outdoor measurements, for example on roads or at airports
- Technical testing centres, experts and acoustics laboratories: measurement series with analysis and limit values
- Research and development: octave band analysis
Anyone who needs to log measurements over extended periods, check against limit values or analyse data by octave will find the necessary functions in the SW 1000.
Regulatory information
As an electrical device, the device falls under the ElektroG. The manufacturer Kern & Sohn GmbH is registered under the WEEE registration number DE 80821200. How to return old appliances is described on the page Environment and disposal.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the device run on batteries? Around 10 hours with four AA batteries. The batteries are not included in the scope of delivery.
Can I measure in third-octave bands? The octave function can be extended to 1/3 octave with the SW-A10 licence. The licence is also available.
How do I start a measurement? Manually, via the timer, or externally via the trigger input with a 3.5 mm jack.
Do I need a calibrator? The calibration mode works with a calibrator, which is available separately.
How long is the warranty? According to Kern & Sohn, this device comes with a 3-year warranty. Kern grants 3 years on products with a list price of €500 or more and 2 years on products below that and on components; wear parts such as batteries and rechargeable batteries are excluded. Warranty repairs are carried out by Kern or by a Kern dealer.
