Product information "WTW SenTix 82 Glass PH Electrode with Liquid Electrolyte and Temperature Sensor, BNC, 1 m Cable, 103643"
The pH value of a sample depends on its temperature. The WTW SenTix 82 therefore has a built-in 30 kOhm NTC sensor. It also features a glass shaft with a conical membrane, a platinum wire diaphragm and a refillable liquid electrolyte (KCl 3 mol/l, Ag⁺-free). The measuring range extends from 0 to 14 pH.
Design and connection
The shaft is 120 mm long and 12 mm thick; the diaphragm resistance is less than 600 MΩ. The 1 m long fixed cable terminates in a BNC plug and a 4 mm banana plug. It is designed for laboratory use. It is immersed vertically or at a slight angle until the diaphragm at the lower end of the shaft is completely surrounded by the sample. For samples above 80 °C, gel electrodes such as the SenTix 42 are no longer suitable; the SenTix 82 is suitable up to 100 °C. The SenTix 81 is available with a DIN connector instead of a BNC connector, whilst the SenTix 62 is available without a temperature sensor.
Typical applications
The range of samples extends from water to protein-containing liquids.
- Drinking water, mineral water, groundwater, lake water, surface water and seawater, swimming pool water
- Beer, lemonade, fruit juice, vegetable juice, wine, milk, coffee extract and vinegar
- Soil extracts, paper extracts and salt solutions
- Diluted acids, emulsions, suspensions, cooling water, dye solutions and electroplating baths
- Hair dye, mouthwash and household cleaners
- Enzyme solutions, gastric juice, infusion solutions, serum, Tris buffer solutions and urine
Measuring with the refill opening open
The measuring chain is supplied pre-filled ex works. For measurement and calibration, the refill opening must be open, the diaphragm must be fully immersed in the sample, and the electrolyte level must be at least 2 cm above the sample level. Stirring conditions should be kept as consistent as possible during calibration and measurement. Avoid the membrane coming into contact with the bottom of the vessel, as this may scratch it. Between measurements, rinse with the next solution or with deionised water. The frequency of recalibration depends on the application; many measuring instruments provide a reminder at an adjustable interval.
Maintenance
Top up using the supplied dropper bottle or KCl-250 (item no. 109705). Store in reference electrolyte, as storing the measuring chain dry or in deionised water will cause permanent damage. If you have measured protein, immerse the electrode in Pepsin cleaning solution PEP/pH (item no. 109648) for about an hour; limescale and hydroxide deposits can be removed with 10 per cent citric acid. pH measuring chains age even without incorrect operation, and strong acids and alkalis, hydrofluoric acid, organic solvents, bromides, sulphides, iodides and high temperatures shorten their service life. Compatible accessories: WTW buffer solutions, A pHLab/K plastic armour (item no. 903841) and STH 650 bench stand (item no. 109809).
