Product information "Binder ED 115 Drying and Heating Oven, Avantgarde.Line with natural convection, 114 l, up to 300 °C, 9010-0335"
The Binder ED 115 is the medium-sized model in the Avantgarde.Line ED range and, like the rest of the series, operates using natural convection rather than an active fan. With a usable volume of 114 litres, it offers significantly more capacity than the ED 56, without the need to compromise on air movement inside the chamber. The temperature range extends from 5 °C above ambient temperature up to 300 °C, controlled via a controller with an LCD display.
Smooth heat distribution without forced air circulation
As the heat circulates exclusively via thermal convection, heating up takes longer than with a comparably sized forced-air unit: the ED 115 takes around 45 minutes to reach 150 °C, with a spatial temperature deviation of 1.5 ± K and a temporal deviation of 0.4 ± K. For samples that are sensitive to air movement, such as open dishes or fine powders, this is a significant advantage over forced-air models such as the FED 115, which is of identical construction and dimensions.
Features: Energy efficiency, USB and safety
According to the manufacturer, APT.line technology ensures up to 30% greater energy efficiency compared with standard market models. A USB port enables the recording of process data, whilst the exhaust air flap is controlled electromechanically. An integrated Class 2 temperature selector limiter in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring a visual alarm, provides additional process safety. The ergonomic handle design facilitates operation during everyday laboratory work, and the housing is stackable.
Typical applications
With a capacity of 114 litres, the ED 115 is suitable for medium-sized batches where quiet heating with minimal air movement remains a priority.
- Drying of medium quantities of laboratory glassware without air turbulence
- Warm storage and conditioning of sensitive material samples
- Heat treatment with documented USB data logging
- Routine operation in quality assurance, research and industry
With external dimensions of 710 x 605 x 705 mm and a weight of 54 kg, the ED 115 can be accommodated on a sturdy laboratory bench or trolley. Two chrome-plated insert racks are included as standard.
Selection guide: choosing the right size from the ED series
With a capacity of 114 litres, the ED 115 is a mid-range model in the ED series, positioned between the compact ED 23 and the larger models ED 260 to ED 720. You can find the complete range of this series in the LT Laborhandel range of climate chambers and incubators.
| Model | Useful volume, external dimensions (W x D x H), weight |
| ED 23 | 20 l, 435 x 520 x 495 mm, 27 kg |
| ED 56 | 57 l, 560 x 565 x 625 mm, 39 kg |
| ED 115 | 114 l, 710 x 605 x 705 mm, 54 kg |
| ED 260 | 255 l, 810 x 760 x 940 mm, 85 kg |
| ED 400 | 400 l, 1,235 x 765 x 1,025 mm, 125 kg |
| ED 720 | 743 l, 1,165 x 870 x 1,590 mm, 169 kg |
For medium-sized batches where air movement inside the chamber is to be avoided – for example, with open samples or fine powders – the ED 115 is usually the most practical size in the range.
Distinction: natural convection or forced air circulation
If, on the other hand, the heating rate is the priority, the Binder FD 115 drying and heating cabinet – which is of identical construction – offers significantly shorter process times with a heating time of 18 minutes rather than 45 minutes to reach 150 °C. For samples sensitive to air movement, or where a still interior is more important than speed, the ED 115 remains the more suitable choice.
