Product information "Binder KBF PRO 1060 Constant-climate chamber, −20 °C to +100 °C, 10 % to 98 % RH, 1,070 l, 9020-0443"
Large test programmes involving varying, and in some cases extreme, climatic profiles require not only a large chamber volume, but also the flexibility to switch between cold, heat and humidity conditions without having to change the unit. The Binder KBF PRO 1060 provides 1,070 litres of usable volume for this purpose, with a control range from −20 °C to +100 °C. For centralised test laboratories with a high volume of samples, this reduces the number of units required, as a single chamber covers a wide range of test profiles.
The Binder KBF PRO 1060 constant-climate chamber is part of Binder’s KBF PRO series and is specialised in the combined control of temperature and relative humidity. The extended temperature range from −20 °C to +100 °C, together with humidity control from 10 °C to 90 °C at 10 % to 98 % RH, goes well beyond the standard range of the KBF series. This means that, in addition to standard ICH stability profiles, the KBF PRO 1060 can also handle all kinds of material testing, for example at temperatures close to freezing point or under THB (Temperature Humidity Bias) conditions at +85 °C and 85 per cent relative humidity. With the optional LED plant light module the unit can also be used as a plant growth chamber. The ICH light module for photostability tests is only available for sizes 260, 470 and 720.
Control technology, humidity control and safety features
The unit is controlled via a touchscreen controller with time-interval and real-time programming, operated via an ergonomically adjustable control terminal. Humidity control is achieved via a capacitive humidity sensor in combination with rapid-response steam humidification. A Class 3.3 temperature selector monitor in accordance with DIN 12880, featuring visual and audible alarms, ensures the safety of unattended test runs, whilst a signal triangle with an illuminated status indicator displays the unit’s status even from a distance. Ethernet and USB interfaces, as well as an internal data logger with an open measurement value format, enable comprehensive documentation; the APT-COM Basic Edition software is included as standard. Users wishing to integrate the analysis into an existing quality management system can, if required, supplement the software with paid editions offering extended analysis functions.
The inner chamber is made of stainless steel; the two inner doors, made of metal-oxide-coated safety glass, allow a clear view of the samples without affecting the climatic conditions. Two outer and two inner doors, each fitted with a door heater to prevent condensation, together with a robust housing design featuring HIT sandwich technology, ensure a stable, well-insulated chamber that quickly returns to its set climate conditions even after frequent door openings. Cooling is provided by a modern inverter chiller using the climate-neutral refrigerant R-290, which, according to the manufacturer’s data sheet, offers up to 40 per cent lower energy consumption compared with the previous model.
Cost-effectiveness and sustainability in continuous operation
Constant-climate cabinets generally run continuously for weeks or months, so energy consumption has a significant impact on running costs. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the modern inverter refrigeration technology with a climate-neutral refrigerant saves up to 40 per cent in energy compared with the previous model, without compromising on the precision of temperature and humidity control. For laboratories with several climate-controlled cabinets operating in parallel, this difference adds up significantly over the service life; furthermore, the climate-neutral refrigerant reduces the environmental impact compared with older refrigerants.
Typical applications
This large chamber size allows for the consolidation of extensive sample archives and multi-track test programmes over long periods, whilst maintaining consistent control accuracy throughout the entire chamber.
- Extensive material testing programmes with varying temperature and humidity profiles
- THB conditions and freeze-thaw cycles with high sample throughput
- Central stability laboratory for pharmaceutical, cosmetics or materials manufacturers with an extended range of tests
- Large-scale plant growth trials with the optional LED plant light module
With the optionally available LED plant light module, the Binder KBF PRO 1060 can be extended for plant growth trials without changing the base unit. Two stainless steel insert racks are included as standard; if required, the chamber can be fitted with additional insert racks, including reinforced ones, up to the maximum number permitted. External water supply systems are also available for humidity control, whilst software documentation upgrades are available up to the GLP edition.

Retrofittable with LED plant light or CO2 gassing
The LED plant light module (8012-2439) and the CO2 gassing module (8012-2140 for 0 to 1 vol.%, 8012-2138 for 0 to 20 vol.%) are available for the KBF PRO 1060; according to the manufacturer's data sheet, an ICH light module does not exist for this size. In light operation, size 1060 reaches a PAR photon flux density of 880 µmol/m²/s at a distance of 25 cm, 610 µmol/m²/s at 50 cm and 480 µmol/m²/s at 75 cm, and the control range narrows to −10 °C to +60 °C at 10 to 90 per cent relative humidity. For fitting the light strips, a shelf set with U-rails in size 1060 is recommended (8012-2392). Both modules are installed on site; the CO2 module does not change the temperature and humidity range of the base unit.
The modules are accessories and not included with the chamber. You will find them with prices under "Matching modules" on this page; more on our Binder page.
