BRAND seripettor bottle-top dispenser ® | 1–10 ml | Item No. 4720140

Product information "BRAND seripettor bottle-top dispenser ® | 1–10 ml | Item No. 4720140"

The Seripettor 1-10 ml is a bottle-top dispenser for repeated dosing directly from the supply bottle, without the need for a pipette. The valve block with dosing cannula is pre-assembled onto the GL45 thread; dosing is controlled by the stroke of the actuator.

Autoclavable except for two components

The valve block, suction tube, dosing cannula and valves are autoclavable at 121 degrees Celsius, 2 bar, for at least 15 minutes in accordance with DIN EN 285, following removal of the actuator and dosing unit. The actuator unit and dosing unit themselves are not autoclavable. For sterile batch processing, this means that the part of the dispenser in contact with the medium can be steam-sterilised without having to replace the entire device.

Suitable for aqueous and mildly corrosive solutions

Suitable for aqueous solutions such as buffer solutions, detergents, anti-foaming agents, culture media, vitamin solutions and hydrogen peroxide; for agar culture media up to 60 degrees Celsius; for weakly concentrated or diluted non-oxidising acids and alkalis such as caustic soda, potassium hydroxide or ammonia, as well as for polar solvents such as ethanol, methanol and acetylacetone. Hydrofluoric acid is not suitable.

Error limits for the 1-10 ml range

For the 1-10 ml range, Brand specifies an accuracy of 1.2 % / 120 µl and a coefficient of variation of 0.2 % / 20 µl, with a graduation of 0.2 ml. This medium-range volume range covers most standard dosages in cell culture and buffer preparation without the need to switch between two instruments.

Typical applications

  • Preparation of buffer solutions and culture media in routine quantities
  • Dispensing agar culture media up to 60 degrees Celsius directly from the storage bottle
  • Recurring dispensing operations in cell culture with an autoclavable valve block
  • Workstations where bottles are changed frequently, but the dispenser remains permanently installed

Selection guide: Volume and media

With a range of 1 to 10 ml, this stage covers most standard dispensing requirements in cell culture and buffer preparation, bridging the gap between the fine 0.2-2 ml stage and the larger 2.5-25 ml stage for culture vessels. The standard seripettor is suitable for sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonia and other aqueous media; hydrofluoric acid is not permitted with any of the three ranges. Users who regularly dispense concentrated hydrochloric acid or acetone should switch to the ‘pro’ version within the same volume range.

seripettor versus Dispensette S

The seripettor is designed for a fixed suction tube and a fixed workstation with recurring dispensing operations, whilst a Dispensette S is designed for a freely adjustable single volume. For media beyond the seripettor’s suitability, such as organic solvents, a Dispensette S Organic from the LT range is the more suitable alternative.

Application and maintenance

The valve block with dispensing cannula is pre-assembled on the thread and is screwed onto the supply bottle using one of the three PP bottle adaptors (GL 32, GL 38, S 40). Before the first dispensing operation and after each change of fluid, the dispenser must be vented, as with any piston dispenser, by repeatedly actuating the dispensing unit until no air bubbles are visible in the suction tube. The suction tube is a fixed length of 250 mm and is not telescopic; the device is therefore particularly suitable for use with a fixed bottle size at the workstation. Two dispensing units are included, so there is no need to reorder immediately in the event of a fault or when switching between two media. For sterile batch processing, the valve block, suction tube, dosing cannula and valves can be autoclaved after removing the actuator and dosing unit; thereafter, simply vent the system again before the next batch.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the valve block autoclavable? Yes, the valve block, suction tube, dosing cannula and valves can be autoclaved at 121 degrees Celsius, 2 bar, for at least 15 minutes in accordance with DIN EN 285, after the actuator and dosing unit have been removed.
  • What is the Seripettor 1-10 ml not suitable for? Hydrofluoric acid; this is expressly excluded according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Which bottle thread fits the Seripettor? GL45 directly; GL 32 and S 40 are also compatible via a PP adapter.
  • What distinguishes the standard Seripettor from the Seripettor Pro? The standard model is designed for aqueous and mildly corrosive media, whilst the Pro model is additionally designed for concentrated hydrochloric acid, acetone and UV-sensitive media.
