The Titrette 10 ml is the finest volume range of the Brand bottle-top burette and is suitable for titrations where a few millilitres of standard solution are sufficient and every drop counts. It screws directly onto the GL45 supply bottle and replaces the classic glass burette including stand at the workstation.

Digital display instead of estimated reading

Instead of a glass scale, the Titrette shows the dispensed value on a counter with display. This reduces reading errors such as can occur at the meniscus edge of a classic burette, especially with small volumes, where a tenth of a millilitre already makes up a noticeable share of the total volume.

Error limits for the 10 ml range

For the 10 ml version, Brand specifies an accuracy of 0.1 percent or 10 µl and a coefficient of variation of 0.05 percent or 5 µl. These are tighter absolute error limits than for the larger Titrette volumes, because the percentage and microlitre values shift accordingly with a smaller total volume.

Selection guide: which volume for which titration

The Titrette series covers 10, 25 and 50 ml. Anyone who mainly works with low consumption of standard solution, for example with highly concentrated samples or small sample quantities, is right with the 10 ml version: the absolute error limits of 10 µl accuracy and 5 µl coefficient of variation are the tightest of the whole series. Anyone who more often needs volumes close to 20 to 30 ml is better served by the 25 ml range, anyone who regularly consumes significantly more by the 50 ml Titrette. For electronic transfer of the consumption value to a LIMS or an Excel evaluation, each of the three volume ranges is additionally available with an RS232 interface.

Titrette compared with glass burette and Dispensette

Compared with a classic class A glass burette, the Titrette replaces reading at the meniscus with a digital counter, but it is still operated manually via the dosing button. The Titrette differs from a Dispensette in its operating principle: the Dispensette repeatedly dispenses a previously set volume in the same amount, whereas the Titrette continuously sums up the consumption up to the end point of the titration and displays the cumulative value.

Application and maintenance

The Titrette screws directly onto the supply bottle of the standard solution via one of the three supplied PP bottle adapters (GL 32, S 40, NS 29/32), and the telescopic filling tube can be adjusted to bottle heights between 170 and 330 mm. Before first use and after every bottle change, the system must be primed like any piston burette so that no air bubble in the cylinder impairs dosing accuracy. The recirculation tube allows standard solution dispensed in excess by mistake to be returned to the bottle instead of starting the titration anew. Two amber-tinted light protection windows protect light-sensitive standard solutions without requiring the bottle to be completely covered. The counter is operated by two type AAA/UM4/LR03 micro batteries, which can be replaced without tools as soon as the display signals low battery voltage. A mains connection is not required, and the device remains ready for use even at workstations without a power socket.
