The 50 ml version of the Titrette is the largest volume range of the series and is intended for titrations that require a lot of standard solution, for example because the concentration is low or the end point is far from the starting volume. Like the smaller Titrettes, it screws directly onto the GL45 supply bottle.

One refill less per titration series

Anyone who has so far worked with a 25 ml burette and had to refill during longer titrations saves this intermediate step with the 50 ml Titrette. This is particularly relevant for titrations with a larger final volume, when the standard solution would otherwise run out in the middle of the determination.

Error limits of the 50 ml version

For 50 ml, Brand specifies an accuracy of 0.06 percent or 30 µl and a coefficient of variation of 0.02 percent or 10 µl. The coefficient of variation in percent is therefore lower than with the 25 ml Titrette, because the repeatability refers to the larger total volume.

Titrette compared with glass burette and Dispensette

Compared with a 50 ml class A glass burette, the Titrette dispenses with reading at the meniscus in favour of a digital counter, and operation via the dosing button remains manual. A Dispensette would be the wrong choice for this task, as it repeatedly dispenses a fixed volume instead of continuously summing the consumption during a titration up to the end point.

Application and maintenance

The Titrette screws directly onto the supply bottle of the standard solution via one of the three supplied PP bottle adapters (GL 32, S 40, NS 29/32), and the telescopic filling tube can be adjusted to bottle heights between 170 and 330 mm. Before first use and after every bottle change, the system must be primed like any piston burette so that no air bubble in the cylinder impairs dosing accuracy. The recirculation tube allows standard solution dispensed in excess by mistake to be returned to the bottle instead of starting the titration anew. Two amber-tinted light protection windows protect light-sensitive standard solutions without requiring the bottle to be completely covered. The counter is operated by two type AAA/UM4/LR03 micro batteries, which can be replaced without tools as soon as the display signals low battery voltage. A mains connection is not required, and the device remains ready for use even at workstations without a power socket.
