Product information "Bürkle All-Layer Collector, aluminium, multi-stage sampler, 430 mm, 5317-2055"
When sampling a silo or big bag containing granular material, the composition often varies with depth – drier at the top, moister at the bottom, or vice versa. The Allschicht Aluminium sampler takes a continuous composite sample across the entire penetration depth in a single penetration, as its inner tube remains open without any compartmentalisation. The range is available in three lengths with penetration depths from 430 to 1,355 millimetres; the tube is made of aluminium and is therefore lighter than a version made entirely of stainless steel.
Open inner tube instead of individual chambers
Unlike a zone sampler with separate chambers, the all-layer sampler has a continuous inner tube. During sampling, the material falls into the tube over its entire length, producing a composite sample that reflects the composition across all layers of the container. For an analysis where a single depth zone is insufficient, this is the quicker method compared to analysing several individual samples. If, on the other hand, a separate sample is required for each depth zone, the Spiralus zone sampler or, for larger quantities, the Allschicht Jumbo sampler is more suitable.
Three lengths for different containers
The shortest version has a penetration depth of 430 millimetres and is suitable for smaller containers and sacks. The medium-length version, at 710 millimetres, reaches deeper into larger drums or cartons. The longest version penetrates to a depth of 1,355 millimetres, thereby also reaching big bags or smaller silos. As the length increases, so does the number of sampling ports from three to five and the sample volume collected from 70 to 260 millilitres, allowing the appropriate model to be selected for use depending on the standard container height in the workplace.
Material and weight
The tube is made of aluminium, the tip of V4A stainless steel (1.4404, AISI 316L) and the seal of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber. Compared with a fully steel version such as the V4A all-steel sampler, the weight is lower, which becomes noticeable when repeatedly inserting the sampler into large containers throughout the working day, particularly with the longest version, which has a total length of over 1.5 metres.
Cleaning between two samples
The tip can be removed, allowing the inner tube to be flushed through or brushed out between two sampling operations. This is important when samples are taken consecutively from different batches and residues from the previous sample could skew the next measurement. For particularly hygiene-sensitive applications involving food contact, the series is available in a V4A stainless steel version as a standalone product, which is better suited to more aggressive cleaning agents than the aluminium version.
Suitable for horizontal and vertical use
The all-layer sampler can be inserted vertically from above into an open container and also guided horizontally from the side through a bag opening or a canister. For mixed storage situations, such as big bags in the warehouse and sacks on a pallet, a single tool is therefore sufficient for both insertion directions, without the need to purchase a separate sampler for each situation.
Typical applications
- Sampling from sacks, drums and big bags containing granular or powdered bulk materials
- Incoming goods inspection, where the composition may vary across the depth of the container
- Composite sampling in the food and feed industries
- Checking thorough mixing after filling a container
- Random sampling in the warehouse, where a lightweight, handy tool is required

Service and procurement
The appropriate length depends on the height of the container and the desired penetration depth at the workplace. LT Laborhandel orders each of the three lengths individually and can advise on whether a single, continuous composite sample is sufficient or whether separate sampling for each depth zone using a zone sampler would be more appropriate. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate length or combining this product with other samplers from the range, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
