Product information "Bürkle Spiralus Zone Collector, aluminium/PA, 1,320 mm, 5318-0145"
Grain and pellets are coarse-grained and often settle in layers within a silo or railway wagon, depending on the conveying technology and the length of time they have been stored. The Spiralus zone sampler draws a sample through a spiral arrangement of slotted openings, which represents the individual depth zones of the lance, rather than mixing them as an open tube would. Two lengths, with penetration depths of 1,320 and 1,736 millimetres, cater for silos, lorry bodies and railway wagons of varying heights. This makes it possible to determine upon delivery whether a load is uniformly composed throughout its entire height or whether grain fractions have segregated.
Eight sampling openings in a spiral arrangement
Eight sampling openings are arranged in a spiral pattern along the length of the lance. This arrangement ensures that the sample taken from each opening actually captures the material at that specific depth, rather than passing through adjacent slots. By rotating the lance, each chamber can be selectively opened and closed again, allowing the eight sub-samples to be taken separately. For a homogeneous composite sample without zone separation, the Aluminium All-Layer Sampler is the simpler choice.
Designed for coarse-grained bulk materials
The tube and external parts are made of aluminium, whilst the internal parts are made of polyamide. This combination is designed for coarse-grained materials such as grain, pellets or similar bulk materials, where fine particles or highly adhesive substances are not a factor. Polyamide is lighter than metal parts and further reduces the weight of the long lance. For finer or sticky powders, a stainless steel sampler with tighter tolerances is more suitable, such as those offered by Bürkle in its other product ranges.
Two lengths for silos, lorries and rail wagons
The 145-centimetre-long version achieves a penetration depth of 1,320 millimetres and has a sample volume of up to 770 millilitres. The 200-centimetre-long version achieves a penetration depth of 1,736 millimetres and a volume of 1,100 millilitres, making it suitable for deeper silos or heavily loaded railway wagons. Both lengths utilise the same chamber geometry with a chamber length of 92 millimetres and a chamber spacing of 125 millimetres, which means that samples taken with the two sizes can be directly compared and the same analysis method works for both sizes.
Use during delivery and stock control
When grain or pellets are delivered by lorry or rail wagon, a sample taken from several depths shows whether the batch is uniformly composed throughout the entire load. In the warehouse itself, the same lance can be used to check regularly whether the material has segregated during its time in the silo or has absorbed moisture from below.
For larger quantities: the Jumbo sampler
If a sample volume of 770 or 1,100 millilitres is insufficient – for example, because a larger reference quantity is required from a particularly large silo or bunker – Bürkle offers two models with a significantly larger tube diameter specifically for this purpose: the Jumbo Sampler Allschicht and the Jumbo Sampler Multi. The Spiralus lance, on the other hand, remains the slimmer and lighter solution for daily routine checks.
Typical applications
- Sampling of grain and pellets from silos, storage facilities, lorries and railway wagons
- Quality and homogeneity testing of coarse-grained agricultural products
- Incoming goods inspection upon delivery of large quantities of bulk materials
- Checking whether material has segregated by grain size during transport
- Regular stock checks during prolonged periods of storage in silos

Service and procurement
The appropriate length depends on the height of the silo, lorry body or railway wagon from which the sample is taken. LT Laborhandel orders both lengths individually and, if required, can also coordinate their use with sample bags or other samplers from the range. If you have any queries regarding the selection of the appropriate length or model – including a comparison with the Jumbo collectors for larger volumes – please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
