Bürkle IceSampler frozen food sampler, V4A stainless steel, 300 mm, 5339-0300

Product information "Bürkle IceSampler frozen food sampler, V4A stainless steel, 300 mm, 5339-0300"

It is almost impossible to take a clean sample from a block of frozen ice cream using an ordinary spoon; the material is too hard and too tough. The IceSampler is designed precisely for this purpose: a V4A stainless steel sampler that extracts frozen, highly viscous or paste-like material. Three lengths, ranging from 300 to 1,050 mm, allow access to containers of varying depths, whilst the sample volume remains constant at 50 ml for all three versions.

Designed for frozen and paste-like materials

Unlike the ViscoSampler series, which draws viscous but still flowable media through a suction piston, the IceSampler uses a cutting blade that extracts even frozen or highly thickened material. This is suitable for ice cream and similarly firm, pasty substances where a suction principle no longer works.

Three lengths with a constant volume

All three versions collect 50 ml, but differ in length: 300 mm for shallow containers, 550 mm for medium depths and 1,050 mm for deep freezer containers or tanks. The handle or shaft accounts for the largest part of each version, ranging from 240 mm on the shortest to 990 mm on the longest.

Material and food contact

The IceSampler is made entirely of 1.4404 stainless steel (V4A, AISI 316L), a corrosion-resistant stainless steel that remains stable even with frequent contact with frozen, regularly cleaned production surfaces. A collective certificate in accordance with EU Regulation 1935/2004 is available for the parts in contact with the product, confirming their suitability for food contact – which is only to be expected for a sample taker designed for ice cream.

Distinction from the ViscoSampler series

If the medium to be sampled is viscous rather than frozen – such as slurries or oils – the ViscoSamplers made of PP or the Mini ViscoSampler made of V4A stainless steel deliver results more quickly, as they draw in the medium rather than cutting it out.

Sampling procedure

To take a sample, the IceSampler is pressed into the frozen or paste-like material; the cutting edge then cuts off a cylinder of material, which is collected in the sample container. Once withdrawn, the sample can be removed from the collection container without first having to be manually broken out of a larger block. This makes sampling feasible even during ongoing production with a limited time window.

Design of the cutting edge and the collection container

The IceSampler’s collection container is the same size for all three lengths: 60 mm high and 100 mm wide, with an inner diameter of 35 mm and an outer diameter of 38 mm for the tube. This consistent geometry ensures that the comparability of the samples remains unchanged, regardless of which length is selected for the respective container. Only the handle increases in length in line with the overall length, ensuring that even deeper freezer containers remain accessible.

Cleaning after use

The IceSampler is made entirely of stainless steel and can therefore be thoroughly cleaned even after contact with sticky or highly sugary substances such as ice cream. This is particularly important in a production environment with frequently changing batches, to ensure that flavours or ingredients from one batch do not carry over into the sample from the next batch.

Typical areas of application

  • Sampling of ice cream in production and quality control
  • Frozen or highly viscous food samples
  • Paste-like substances that can no longer be drawn in

Service and procurement

The appropriate length depends on the depth of the freezer container or tank from which the sample is taken. LT Laborhandel orders each of the three IceSampler lengths individually and, if required, can also advise on the differences between the ViscoSampler series for non-frozen media. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate length or the combination of several samplers for different consistencies, please contact LT Laborhandel for further assistance.
