Product information "Bürkle Jumbo Zone Collector Multi, aluminium/PTFE, 850 mm, 5319-2085"
Sometimes a single composite sample is not sufficient, for example when it needs to be determined whether a large container has segregated by grain size or moisture content during transport. The Jumbo-Sammler Multi, with its separate chambers, takes several individual samples from different depths in a single puncture; these can be analysed separately or combined subsequently to form a composite sample. There is a choice of three insertion depths ranging from 850 to 2,500 millimetres, with PTFE seals between the chambers to prevent the sub-samples from mixing during insertion.
Separate chambers instead of an open tube
Unlike the structurally identical Allschicht Jumbo sampler, the inner tube here is divided into individual chambers by separators. Each chamber collects its own sample from a specific depth zone, sealed by PTFE seals which prevent material from migrating between the chambers. After extraction, the contents of the chambers can be analysed individually or combined, depending on whether the aim is to separate the layers within the container itself or whether only a representative composite sample is required. This flexibility following sampling distinguishes the Multi-Collector from samplers that can only provide a composite sample from the outset.
Large chambers for coarse-grained material
As with its All-Layer counterpart, the 50-millimetre tube diameter and 100-millimetre chamber length are designed for large containers and coarse-grained bulk materials. Each chamber of the collector holds around 130 millilitres; with seven chambers in the longest version, this results in a total volume of up to 910 millilitres, divided into seven sub-samples that can be analysed separately. For smaller quantities with separate zones, the more compact Spiralus zone collector is usually sufficient.
Three lengths with an increasing number of chambers
The 85-centimetre-long version has three chambers and achieves a penetration depth of 850 millimetres with a total volume of 390 millilitres. The 150-centimetre-long version features five chambers, a penetration depth of 1,500 millimetres and a volume of 650 millilitres. The 250-centimetre-long version has seven chambers, achieves a penetration depth of 2,500 millimetres and collects a total of up to 910 millilitres of sample from seven different depths.
Separate or combined analysis
A typical procedure involves analysing each chamber separately to determine at which depth an anomaly occurs, such as higher moisture content at the bottom of a silo. If the test reveals no notable distribution, the contents of the chambers can also be combined into a single composite sample and processed in the same way as with an all-layer sampler. This means that the decision as to whether separation by depth zone is really necessary remains open even after sampling, rather than having to be determined in advance.
When a single composite sample is sufficient
If the research question is already clear in advance and a single representative sample covering the entire depth is sufficient, the identically constructed ‘Jumbo All-Layer’ sampler eliminates the additional step of chamber analysis. The ‘Multi’ sampler is particularly worthwhile where the distribution across the depth is itself part of the investigation, or where the subsequent traceability of individual zones may become important.
Typical areas of application
- Checking whether a container has segregated during transport or storage
- Separate analysis of multiple depth zones in silos, bunkers and big bags
- Quality control of large batches of bulk materials with subsequent composite sampling
- Research and process testing regarding the homogeneity of large quantities of material
- Locating individual problem areas within a large container

Service and procurement
Whether the separate zone sample from the Multi sampler or the continuous mixed sample from the All-layer sampler is the right choice depends on the specific requirements. LT Laborhandel orders each of the three lengths individually and offers advice on this selection, as well as on combining them with sample bags or other accessories. If you have any queries regarding the appropriate length or the analysis of the individual chambers, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
