Product information "Bürkle Multi Sampler Multi-stage Sampler, V4A stainless steel, 430 mm, 5316-3055"
A sack in the goods-in area, a drum lying on its side in production or a loose pile in the storage area: each of these situations requires a lance that can be inserted vertically from above or horizontally from the side and only releases its samples at the desired depth. The Multi Sampler V4A is made entirely of 1.4404 stainless steel (V4A, AISI 316L) and is available in three sizes, with penetration depths ranging from 430 to 1,355 millimetres, featuring either three or five sampling chambers.
Suitable for use in sacks, drums, silos and stockpiles
The lance can be inserted either vertically into a silo or a big bag, or horizontally from the side into a sack or a drum lying on its side. Turning the handle opens the collection chambers only at the point where the sample is to be taken, and closes them again as the lance is withdrawn. This makes it possible to take zone profiles even where a container is not accessible from above, such as with drums stored on their sides or piles of material on the ground.
Solid stainless steel tubing instead of a PTFE core
Unlike the Multi Sampler V4A/PTFE, this version does not have a polytetrafluoroethylene core in the tube. The tube, which is made entirely of stainless steel, is more robust when subjected to intensive use and abrasive particles, but is slightly heavier than the version with a PTFE core. The seals are made of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR), whilst the mechanism also incorporates components made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Anyone who uses the sampler several times a day and notices every gram of weight will find the lighter PTFE-core version to be the more suitable alternative.
Removable tip for cleaning
The tip of the lance can be removed. This makes it easier to clean the lance between taking samples of different materials, particularly when residues from the collection chambers or from the tip itself need to be completely removed before the next sample is taken.
Three sizes ranging from 430 to 1,355 millimetres
The shortest version (5316-3055) has a penetration depth of 430 millimetres and three chambers, each with a capacity of 14 millilitres, totalling 42 millilitres. This short version is only available in the all-stainless-steel variant; it is not available in the V4A/PTFE version. The medium size (5316-3085) measures 710 millimetres and has three chambers, each with a capacity of 17 millilitres, totalling 51 millilitres. The longest version (5316-3150) measures 1,355 millimetres and has five chambers, each with a capacity of 17 millilitres, totalling 85 millilitres.
Chamber length and chamber spacing increase with the size of the unit
As the size increases, not only does the number of chambers change, but so too do their length and the distance between them. In the shortest version, the chambers are 80 millimetres long and 56 millimetres apart; in the two longer versions, the chamber length is 100 millimetres and the spacing is 168 and 195 millimetres respectively. If you wish to test zones as evenly as possible across the entire penetration depth, you will find the exact values for each size in the table below.
Use depending on the sector
In the food industry, the Multi Sampler checks the homogeneity of cereals, maize, nuts, powders and granules. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used for quality control of raw materials as well as intermediate and finished products; in the chemical industry, it is used to analyse chemicals and powders for homogeneity and compliance with specifications. In the construction sector, materials science and research and development, it is used for sampling bulk materials such as sand and gravel.
Food contact according to Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004
A Bürkle collective certificate according to Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 is available for the parts made of stainless steel and PTFE that come into contact with the medium; this confirms their suitability for food contact. The certificate covers several Bürkle products and does not constitute an individual, product-specific test.
Choice within the Multi Sampler range
Within the Multi Sampler range, this model differs from the Multi Sampler V4A/PTFE thanks to the continuous stainless steel tube and the additional short size with a penetration depth of 430 millimetres. If, instead of a zone profile, only a specific sample from a single depth is required, the Uno Sampler target-point sampler from the same material family is sufficient. If the sample is intended to represent the entire layer height rather than individual zones, the All-layer Sampler V4A is more suitable.
Typical applications
- Zone profiles of bulk material in sacks, drums, silos, big bags and stockpiles
- Homogeneity testing of cereals, maize, nuts, powders and granules in the food industry
- Quality control of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products in the pharmaceutical industry
- Analysis of chemicals and powders in the chemical industry
- Sampling of sand, gravel and other bulk materials in the construction industry and in materials science

Service and procurement
Whether the version made entirely from stainless steel or the lighter V4A/PTFE version is more suitable depends on the frequency of use and the requirements in terms of weight and robustness. Bürkle also lists an optional emptying device as an accessory for this series. We can confirm availability on request and advise you on choosing between the three sizes and the two material variants. Our team is on hand to answer any queries.
