Not every sampling operation requires a depth profile across multiple levels. If only a single, targeted sample is required from a specific zone of a bag, drum, silo or stockpile, a sampling chamber is sufficient. The Uno sampler opens exactly one chamber at the desired depth and provides a spot sample, which can be analysed individually or combined with other spot samples to form a composite sample, depending on the requirements of the test specification.

One chamber instead of multiple zones

Unlike the Multi-Sampler, which has three or five collection chambers, the Uno Sampler has just a single chamber. This makes it the simpler and more cost-effective choice when a complete zone profile is not required, but rather a targeted sample from a specific depth or zone. For businesses that predominantly take individual samples, the simpler design is also less prone to operator error than a device with multiple chambers.

Combining several Uno samplers to create your own profile

Coloured caps distinguish between multiple Uno samplers when several samplers are deployed simultaneously from different depths within the same container. This allows a customised depth profile to be created without being restricted by the fixed chamber layout of a multi-collector, and individual target-point samples can be analysed separately if required, rather than being automatically mixed. This is useful when the depth intervals need to vary on a case-by-case basis, rather than being fixed within a single device.

Material and seal

As with the multi-collector, the tube is made of V4A (1.4404) stainless steel with a PTFE core, whilst the seal is made of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR). This combination ensures the sampler is easy to handle whilst also being chemically resistant to most bulk materials and cleaning agents, which is particularly beneficial when the chamber is frequently screwed on and off.

Two sizes with different insertion depths

Two insertion depths are available: 430 millimetres with a sample volume of 14 millilitres and 710 millimetres with a sample volume of 17 millilitres. The shorter version is suitable for shallower containers such as sacks, whilst the longer version is designed for deeper drums or silos where the target position is further down. The correct length is determined solely by the depth of the target position within the respective container, not by the volume of sample material required.

Use in food and pharmaceutical facilities

Bürkle specifies that the material of the Uno sampler is suitable for foodstuffs, without reference to a specific standard such as EU 10/2011. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the sampler is also manufactured in accordance with a DIN standard; however, Bürkle does not specify a particular standard number for this model. For applications with higher hygiene requirements, it is autoclavable according to the manufacturer’s specifications, meaning it can be fully decontaminated between use with different materials.

Practical example: raw material inspection

If, upon delivery, the aim is simply to check whether the material at a critical point in the drum – for example, near the bottom – meets the specifications, a single spot sample is sufficient and can be taken more quickly than a complete zone profile involving several chambers. The UNO sampler provides precisely this single sample without the need to sample and analyse the remaining zones, thereby reducing the testing effort per batch.
