Product information "Bürkle Profi Sampler Vacuum Sampling Pump, Aluminium, GL 45, 5305-1100"
Solvents and other flammable liquids must not generate any electrostatic charge during sampling. The Profi Sampler Aluminium is a vacuum sampling pump designed specifically for this purpose, suitable for explosion groups IIA, IIB and IIC, and included in the scope of delivery is a grounding cable to earth the unit before sampling.
Aluminium, glass and electrically conductive suction tubes
The pump housing is made of aluminium; the 500 ml sample bottle is made of glass and connected via a GL-45 thread, compatible with standard Schott glass bottles ranging from 100 ml to 1,000 ml. Five black, electrically conductive polyamide suction tubes, each 220 cm long, are included in the Scope of delivery, as is a brass hose weight.
Earthing as a prerequisite for safe use
Bürkle expressly points out that the device must be earthed when sampling flammable liquids. The earthing cable included in the Scope of delivery fulfils this requirement; in addition, depending on the application, the manufacturer recommends an anti-static kit, which is not included in the Scope of delivery. The explosion protection note refers to the specified explosion groups and the requirement for earthing. Bürkle does not state an ATEX marking for the device; according to the manufacturer, it is suitable for Ex zones 0, 1 and 2.
Aluminium or PP: the right version
For solvents and flammable liquids requiring explosion protection, the aluminium version with a GL-45 glass bottle is the correct choice. Where, on the other hand, weak acids, alkalis or aqueous cleaning agents without a risk of explosion are involved, the Profi-Sampler version made of polypropylene with a PP bottle and PE suction hose meets these requirements. Both pumps draw the sample using the same vacuum principle, achieving a suction height of up to 5 mWS for media with a viscosity of up to 500 mPa·s.
Why glass rather than plastic
With solvents, a plastic bottle may corrode the medium or, conversely, leach components into the sample, which would distort the analysis result. The 500-millilitre glass bottle with a GL-45 thread avoids this risk and is compatible with standard Schott glass bottles ranging from 100 ml to 1,000 ml, meaning that different bottle sizes can be connected depending on the required sample volume.
Seal for tamper-evident verification
As with the PP version, seal-it bottle seals secure the glass bottle tamper-proof after sampling. 20 seals are included to ensure the sample’s journey from the collection point to the laboratory remains traceable, a particularly important consideration for flammable or safety-critical samples.
Electrically conductive suction tubes instead of tubing
Unlike the PP version with a flexible suction hose, the Profi Sampler Aluminium uses five rigid, electrically conductive suction tubes made of polyamide, each 220 cm long. The electrical conductivity of the tubes, together with the earthing cable, helps to prevent electrostatic charging when drawing in flammable liquids.
Five suction tubes for continuous operation
As five suction tubes are included in the Scope of delivery, a replacement is immediately available should a tube become worn or damaged, without the need to interrupt sampling whilst awaiting a replacement. This is a practical advantage in safety-critical applications with explosion-proof requirements, as damaged tubes that are no longer continuously conductive should be replaced before they are used further. Replacement tubes can be reordered separately if required.
Typical applications
- Sampling of solvents and other flammable liquids
- Facilities where explosion groups IIA, IIB or IIC are relevant during sampling
- Filling directly into Schott glass bottles ranging from 100 ml to 1,000 ml
- Sampling where earthing of the sampler is mandatory

Service and procurement
For use with flammable liquids, the manufacturer also recommends an anti-static kit, which is not included in the Scope of delivery. LT Laborhandel can assist with the procurement of spare parts such as suction tubes, bottle seals or replacement bottles in the appropriate GL-45 format. Anyone who samples aqueous media without a risk of explosion in addition to solvents should supplement their equipment with the PP version of the Profi Sampler, ensuring that a suitable device is available for both types of media.
