Bürkle Profi Sampler vacuum sampling pump, PP, 250 ml bottle, 5305-1000

Liquid samples from drums, IBCs or containers often cannot be drawn off cleanly without air or foreign matter entering the sample. The Profi Sampler PP is a vacuum sampling pump made of polypropylene which draws liquid via a 10-metre-long suction hose directly into a connected 250-ml bottle, without the need to transfer the sample by hand.

Solid polypropylene for weak acids and alkalis

The pump is made of solid, chemical-resistant polypropylene and, according to Bürkle, is designed for weak acids, alkalis, cleaning agents and chemical baths. The polyethylene suction hose is 10 m long; the hose weight at the end of the hose is made of V2A stainless steel (1.4301) and ensures that the hose does not float up when drawing liquid from deeper containers.

How it works: Vacuum instead of decanting

The pump can be positioned on the rim of a container or on a flat surface using the vent valve and the support legs. During suction, the pump creates a vacuum and draws the liquid through the suction hose into the connected PP bottle with a GL-40 thread, up to a suction height of 5 mWS and for liquids with a viscosity of up to 500 mPa·s. After sampling, one of the supplied ‘seal-it’ bottle seals secures the bottle tamper-proof for transport to the laboratory.

PP or aluminium: the right version

The Profi Sampler PP is designed for weak acids, alkalis and aqueous media. For solvents and flammable liquids, where explosion protection and earthing are important, the Profi Sampler version made of aluminium with a GL-45 glass bottle is the appropriate choice. Both pumps operate on the same vacuum principle, but differ in terms of material, bottle size and operating limits.

Seal for seamless traceability

After sampling, a ‘seal-it’ bottle seal secures the PP bottle. Such a seal cannot be opened without visibly damaging it, meaning that during transport to the laboratory it is possible to tell whether the bottle has been opened in the meantime. 20 seals are included, which is sufficient for several sampling sessions before a replenishment is required.

Cleaning between samples

Support legs and a vent valve allow the pump to be quickly emptied between sampling sessions and prepared for the next medium. When switching between different batches, a brief cleaning of the pump and suction tube prevents residues from the previous sample from skewing the next result – a factor that regularly comes into play during routine sampling from different containers.

Handy for everyday use

Weighing 2.8035 kg net, the Profi Sampler PP can be held in one hand and positioned on the rim of a drum or a flat surface, whilst the other hand guides the suction hose. The 10-metre-long hose also bridges containers situated slightly away from the actual sampling point, without the need to reposition the entire pump.

Why polypropylene as a pump material

Polypropylene withstands a wide range of weak acids, alkalis and aqueous cleaning agents, whilst remaining significantly lighter than a comparable metal pump. As the material does not react with most cleaning agents, it is suitable for businesses that regularly monitor chemical baths or cleaning solutions and require a robust yet lightweight piece of equipment for this purpose. For more aggressive media or applications requiring explosion protection, however, the aluminium version is recommended.

Anyone who samples solvents or flammable liquids in addition to weak acids and alkalis would be well advised to supplement their equipment with the aluminium version bearing the explosion-proof marking.
