Bürkle Novartos Uno Pharmaceutical Zone Collector, 2-compartment, V4A stainless steel, 600 mm insertion depth, 5358-0600

Product information "Bürkle Novartos Uno Pharmaceutical Zone Collector, 2-compartment, V4A stainless steel, 600 mm insertion depth, 5358-0600"

In pharmaceutical incoming goods inspection, a single sample per container is often insufficient. An inspector requires two identical sub-samples from the same point in the drum: one for the current release test, and one as a retained sample for subsequent re-testing. Two separate punctures would be imprecise for this purpose, as they would never hit exactly the same spot. The Novartos Uno, with its dual-sample extraction system, extracts precisely this double sample from a single, pre-determined point in the bulk material, in a single puncture.

Two samples from a single point, one puncture

The sampling lance has a single collection chamber, which is fitted with two sample inserts (available separately). When inserted into the bulk material, both inserts fill simultaneously at the same point. The material between the two sub-samples thus remains comparable, without the need for a second penetration, which would mix the rest of the container more thoroughly or cause damage. After the lance has been withdrawn, the two filled inserts are removed and processed separately.

Use in release and hold procedures

Typically, the sample is divided into one for ongoing testing and one for retention in accordance with standard GMP guidelines. Both sub-samples originate from the same zone, which makes the comparison traceable at a later stage, for example if a re-test is required due to a complaint. In the event of a dispute, this allows it to be demonstrated that the retained sample truly originates from the same area of the container as the one originally tested.

Three lengths for different container heights

The Novartos Uno 2-Fach is available with insertion depths of 600, 1,000 and 1,400 millimetres; the total length, depending on the model, is 800, 1,200 or 1,600 millimetres. For a standard drum, the shortest version is usually sufficient; larger big bags or containers require the longer variants to ensure that even the deepest layers can be reached. For all three lengths, the target position of the collection chamber is 52 millimetres in front of the lance tip, meaning that the sampling depth can be controlled via the selected overall length.

Material for the pharmaceutical sector

The lance is manufactured from V4A (1.4404) stainless steel with components made from 1.4571, with a tube diameter of 25 millimetres. Both steels are corrosion-resistant and designed for regular cleaning between batches, as is standard practice in pharmaceutical and chemical production.

Why the chamber position matters

The collection chamber begins only 52 millimetres behind the tip of the lance. The top 52 millimetres of the container are therefore not sampled, which must be taken into account when comparing samples from other samplers or from previous batches. The chamber length of 45 millimetres also determines the layer height from which the two subsamples are taken.

Replacement tip and sampling inserts

For the Novartos Uno series, a replacement tip made of V4A is available as a separate spare part in case the original tip becomes damaged through frequent use. The corresponding sample inserts are available in six volumes ranging from 0 to 4 millilitres and are selected individually depending on the test task and inserted into the collection chamber.

Selection within the Novartos range

The Novartos Uno draws the sample at exactly one point, whereas the Novartos Multi, with its 2-position sample draw, draws along four to nine zones across the entire penetration depth, providing an overview of several layers rather than a single point. If a third sub-sample is required at the same location – for example, for additional validation – the Novartos Uno is available with a 3-position sample draw. The multi-zone variant, taking three samples per zone, is the Novartos Multi with a 3-point sampling mechanism.

Typical applications

  • Incoming goods inspection of powders and granules in pharmaceutical and chemical production
  • Duplicate samples for release testing and retained samples from a drum or big bag
  • Sampling at a defined target point without repeated puncturing
  • Batch testing of free-flowing bulk materials

Service and procurement

The correct length depends on the insertion depth of the respective container. LT Laborhandel supplies the Novartos Uno 2-channel in all three lengths and procures matching sample inserts ranging from 0 to 4 millilitres, as well as the replacement tip made from V4A. If you have any queries regarding the selection of the correct zone sampler variant within the Novartos range, please contact LT Laborhandel for assistance.
