Product information "Giese-GEF Hazard Label Class 1.5 (Very Insensitive Substances Capable of Mass Explosion), 100 x 100 mm, Self-Adhesive Film, Roll of 1,000"

The Class 1.5 hazard label is used to mark packages containing very insensitive substances capable of mass explosion. The roll contains 1,000 labels measuring 100 x 100 mm on self-adhesive film in accordance with BS 5609 and is supplied by Giese-GEF in Offenbach am Main. The orange label bears the numerals 1.5; there is no pictogram for this subclass.

Applications

The label is intended for packages in subclass 1.5. According to ADR, these are substances for which ignition or a transition from combustion to detonation is highly unlikely under normal transport conditions. In the trade, this same marking is also referred to as a dangerous goods sticker, dangerous goods label or dangerous goods tag.

Vehicles are required to display a large label for this subclass. The roll label measuring 100 x 100 mm does not replace it, as large labels must be at least 250 x 250 mm in size and bear the subclass number at least 25 mm high. The consignor determines which labelling a consignment requires on the basis of the applicable regulations.

Design of the hazard label

Design 1.5 is a diamond standing on its point on an orange background. The numerals 1.5 appear in the upper half in black; for a label measuring 100 x 100 mm, they are approximately 30 mm high and around 5 mm thick. In the bottom corner is the class number 1. Above this, the ADR template specifies the letter of the compatibility group. Anyone requiring a specific group on the label should enquire about the roll specification before placing an order.

Material and finish

The label is printed on self-adhesive film, which the manufacturer states to be seawater-resistant in accordance with BS 5609 Section 2. BS 5609 is a voluntary standard. The IMDG Code requires that markings remain legible after at least three months in seawater, but specifies neither a standard nor a test method for this. Section 2 concerns the unprinted material, including the adhesive, whilst Section 3 governs the durability of the print. It is supplied as a roll of 1,000 pieces.

Frequently asked questions

Where should the labels be placed if several are required? Several hazard labels belong close together on the same surface of the package and must not obscure one another. For Class 1, they should be placed near the proper shipping name (ADR 5.2.2.1.6).

Are the other subclasses of Class 1 also available? The shop lists subclass 1.6, for extremely insensitive articles, as Class 1.6 hazard labels, and subclass 1.4 as Class 1.4 hazard labels. For 1.1 to 1.3, there is design No. 1 as Class 1 hazard label with variants for each subclass.
