Product information "Giese-GEF Hazard Label Class 3 (Flammable Liquids), 100 x 100 mm, Self-Adhesive Film, Roll of 1,000, 300-10-1"
The Class 3 hazard label indicates on packages that they contain flammable liquids. This roll from Giese-GEF (Offenbach am Main) contains 1,000 labels measuring 100 x 100 mm on self-adhesive film in accordance with BS 5609. This labelling is also known commercially as a Class 3 dangerous goods label or sticker.
Applications
The label goes on packages and overpacks containing Class 3 substances. Examples include acetone (UN 1090), petrol (UN 1203) and methanol (UN 1230). The manufacturer identifies fire and explosion as the hazards, as vapours can form explosive mixtures with air. The consignor decides which labels a consignment carries.
Design of the hazard label
The diamond is positioned on its point and is red. At the top is a flame, in black or white according to ADR, and at the bottom the number 3. A line runs approximately 5 mm inside the border, in the colour of the symbol at the top and in the colour of the number at the bottom. The minimum size according to ADR is 100 x 100 mm.
A special rule applies to self-reactive substances and organic peroxides. They do not require an additional label 3, as label 4.1 or 5.2 already indicates their flammability.
Material and finish
The labels are made of self-adhesive film. According to the manufacturer, they are seawater-resistant in accordance with BS 5609 (Section 2). The IMDG Code requires that markings remain legible after at least three months in seawater; BS 5609 is a voluntary means of demonstrating this. According to the manufacturer, the label is UV-resistant, and the adhesive provides a permanent bond, both indoors and outdoors. The roll contains 1,000 labels, each individually mounted on a backing tape.
