The IKA A 11 basic is the standard analytical mill for the rapid and efficient grinding of hard, brittle and fibrous materials in the laboratory. It operates as a batch mill and is ideal for sample preparation, for example for analytical purposes (e.g. IR spectroscopy) or quality control.

Operating principle: impact grinding in batch mode

This mill does not operate continuously, but in batch mode (up to 80 mL sample volume). (Feature) A robust beater (Type A 11.1, included) rotates at a high, constant speed (28,000 rpm) and grinds the sample through impact and shear forces (Benefit). This is ideal for hard materials such as cereals, bones, ores or dried plant samples.

Integrated safety features

To protect the user during high-performance operation, the A 11 basic is equipped with several safety features. The mill only starts when the lid is closed. Should the lid be opened during operation, a quick-stop function ensures the user’s safety.

Material and application notes

The grinding chamber and the beater are made of stainless steel. It is important for procurement specialists to note that the mill is primarily suitable for brittle and hard materials. Damp, sticky, oily or very soft materials can cause the beater to become clogged and are not suitable for this type of mill. A special disposable grinding cup (A 11.5) is available as an option for metal-free grinding.
