Product information "IKA C-MAG HP 4, heating plate, ceramic (100 x 100 mm), 250 W, 0003581600"
Thermodynamic infrared transmission and amorphous ceramic matrix
The application of extreme thermal gradients to reaction vessels requires material architectures that are thermophysically completely resistant to high temperature differentials and corrosion. The IKA C-MAG HP 4 operates as a pure laboratory hotplate (without electromagnetic stirring) and utilises a monolithic base plate (100 x 100 mm) made of glass-hard, amorphous industrial ceramic. This microstructured silicate plate is physically inert to highly corrosive acids, halogens and alkalis, and acts as a highly efficient infrared emitter. With a heating power of 250 watts, the system raises the surface temperature to up to 500 °C. The thermal energy is not primarily transferred via conductive heat transfer, but is coupled deep into the glass matrix of the reaction vessel through an extremely high proportion of infrared radiation. This drastically minimises thermodynamic latencies during the heating of micro- and macro-volumes.
Metrological cybernetics and isochoric temperature control
An integrated PID microprocessor controls the thermal vectors. Metrological monitoring is carried out via a high-resolution LCD display, which accurately shows the digital setpoint temperature. The control loop modulates the electrical heating power of the 250 W resistance heater in real time and regulates the energy supply proactively to prevent thermal overshoot of the ceramic plate. This architecture guarantees a reproducible thermal environment for the distillation or digestion process. (Note on system limitations: As a dedicated HP model, this system does not have a DIN interface for external contact thermometers; the control system relates exclusively to the plate temperature).
System stability and thermodynamic hardware safety
The continuous operation at 500 °C requires uncompromising insulation of the electronic chassis. The housing architecture of the C-MAG series thermally isolates the hot ceramic top from the sensitive circuit boards in the base unit. Occupational health and safety is ensured by an independent, hardware-based safety circuit which physically cuts off the power supply when the plate reaches a limit temperature of exactly 550 °C. In addition, the visual ‘Hot Top’ indicator warns of latent infrared residual heat from the ceramic matrix (at temperatures > 50 °C), even when the system has already been disconnected from the mains supply. This prevents irreversible thermal injuries (burns) to the user.

Contents of delivery
- 1 x IKA C-MAG HP 4 hotplate
- 1 x power cable for IT equipment
Important note: The HP series is a purely thermodynamic unit. The system has no electromagnetic drive (no stirring motor) and no connection for external medium temperature sensors (such as the ETS-D5). If you require isochoric temperature control directly within the fluid or mixing, it is essential that you purchase the IKA C-MAG HS series (Heating & Stirring).
Custom requirements & accessories
The C-MAG HP 4 is the ideal heat source for static digestion or sand baths. To optimise the thermophysical transfer in asymmetrical flasks (such as round-bottom flasks) and prevent infrared radiation losses to the laboratory atmosphere, we recommend the use of specific aluminium heating blocks or traditional laboratory sand baths, which can be placed directly on the 100 x 100 mm ceramic matrix. Please feel free to contact our procurement service at any time to discuss the configuration of your thermodynamic setup.
