Product information "IKA MF 10 basic micro-fine mill (drive), 3,000 – 6,500 rpm, 0002836000"

Versatility in grinding: IKA MF 10 basic micro-fine mill drive

The IKA MF 10 basic (MPN 0002836000) is a true all-rounder in the laboratory. Whereas different pieces of equipment would normally have to be purchased for various grinding tasks – a cutting mill for fibrous material, an impact mill for brittle materials – the MF 10 basic combines these functions in a single, powerful drive system. This modular design makes it a cost-effective and space-saving solution for laboratories in food analysis, pharmaceuticals, biology or materials testing.

One drive, two grinding principles

At the heart of the system is the powerful drive motor offered here. It is designed for continuous operation and offers an adjustable speed range of 3,000 to 6,500 min⁻¹. The key advantage lies in the interchangeable grinding heads (available separately), which are simply fitted onto this drive:

  1. Impact mill head (MF 10.2): Ideal for brittle, hard materials such as minerals, glass, grain or coffee. The material is propelled against the grinding tools by rotating hammers and is broken up.
  2. Cutting mill head (MF 10.1): Perfect for fibrous, tough or elastic materials such as paper, plastics, leaves, roots or textiles. Here, the material is cut between rotating and stationary blades.

This ‘2-in-1’ system gives you the flexibility to handle almost any type of sample without having to invest in two separate machines.

Continuous operation thanks to the continuous-feed principle

Unlike batch mills, which can only process a small quantity (e.g. 50 ml) at a time, the MF 10 basic operates as a continuous-feed mill. This means that the material to be ground is fed in at the top, passes through the grinding chamber and falls through a sieve at the bottom into the collection vessel. This allows even larger sample quantities to be processed in a single operation, without having to stop and empty the machine in between. A standard thread (NS 29) at the outlet enables the secure connection of a wide variety of collection vessels.

Precisely defined final particle size

A critical aspect of sample preparation is the reproducibility of particle size. With the MF 10 basic, the final fineness is determined not by the grinding time (as with simple mills), but by interchangeable bottom sieves. The material only leaves the grinding chamber once it is fine enough to pass through the pores of the selected sieve. IKA offers sieves with hole diameters ranging from 0.25 mm to 3.0 mm. This guarantees that your sample has exactly the defined particle size distribution required for subsequent analyses (e.g. extractions or NIR measurements).

Safety and Durability

The powerful motor (1,000 W power consumption) is designed for continuous operation and features overload protection. Should the motor seize or overheat, it switches off automatically to prevent damage. To avoid unnecessarily heating the material being ground, the grinding chamber is designed to dissipate heat rapidly. For particularly heat-sensitive samples, it is also possible to use cooling media (depending on the head). User safety is a top priority: the drive only starts when a grinding head is correctly fitted and the safety circuit is closed. This prevents accidental contact with the rotating blades whilst they are in operation.

Easy cleaning

In analytical work, cross-contamination is the greatest risk. The grinding heads of the MF 10 system can be quickly dismantled without tools. All parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel and can be easily cleaned or even autoclaved. The drive housing (‘Easy Clean’ design) is also smooth and easy to wipe clean.

Note on the scope of delivery

Please note that this is the drive motor. To make the unit operational, you must have one of the two grinding heads (MF 10.1 or MF 10.2) as well as at least one perforated sieve. This modular design allows you to configure the system precisely to your requirements.
