The hydrodynamic turbulence (vortex) generated by the expanded volume transforms even larger samples into an analytically homogeneous, fine-powdered matrix that is optimally accessible for subsequent DNA/RNA extraction.

In PCR-based trace analysis or forensic investigations of representative cross-sectional samples, even the slightest presence of foreign nucleic acids or microbial enzymes (DNases/RNases) leads to a catastrophic metrological false-positive result. Fits
Crushing seed samples before analysis brings a recurring problem in practice: after every grinding run the chamber has to be cleaned, otherwise residual material is carried over to the next sample, and with cereal varieties of different origin this quickly adds up to a real time problem. The IKA Tube Mill 100 control solves this with patented disposable milling tubes. The batch mill accepts milling tubes of up to 100 ml, a smaller 40 ml tube is included, and it reaches a speed of up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. Between two samples no tube is rinsed, it is replaced, which saves time and rules out carry-over of residual material between batches.Two milling tube sizes on one drive unitThe drive accepts both the larger MT 100 (100 ml) and the MT 40 (40 ml), both of which are included in the scope of delivery. The milling tube and the cover hood are made of transparent plastic, so the grinding process remains visible from outside. Hard, brittle and dry materials up to Mohs hardness 5 and a maximum feed particle size of 10 mm can be processed, and the working principle is a combination of cutting and impact crushing. Heat-sensitive material can be cooled in the chamber with dry ice, the duty cycle is 3 minutes at a time, after which the drive needs a short pause. For serial analysis with a consistent tube shape the smaller MT 40 is usually sufficient, larger sample quantities belong in the MT 100.Operation, timer and safety shut-offA multilingual OLED display shows speed, timer and error messages, and operation is via a touch keypad. The timer covers a range from 5 seconds to 3 minutes, and interval operation can be switched on when short pauses between grinding phases are needed, for example to let the chamber cool down in between. Test conditions can be programmed and saved, which makes repeat tests reproducible without setting speed and time anew each time. The mill only starts with the hood closed, and a safety speed and time can be set.
