Product information "IKA MT 40.100 Disposable Grinding Beakers, 40 ml, 100 pieces, 0020001173"
Kinetics of impact comminution on a closed microscale
In the analytical sample preparation of hard, brittle and dry matrices (such as rocks, mineral solids or tablets), the application of substantial mechanical energy is essential. The IKA MT 40 single-use grinding beakers operate on the process principle of high-speed impact and percussion comminution on an isolated 40-ml scale. A solid stainless-steel beater is permanently integrated at the geometric centre of the chamber. Driven by the magnetic coupling of the IKA Tube Mill base station at up to 25,000 revolutions per minute, this rotor transfers immense kinetic energy to the solids. The resulting radial shock waves overcome the molecular bonding forces of the sample, shatter macroscopic lattice structures in fractions of a millisecond and transform them into an analytically homogeneous, fine-powdered matrix.
Polymer physics and thermomechanical integrity
The high-speed comminution of extremely hard samples induces significant thermodynamic stress (exothermic reaction) due to friction and wall collisions. The MT 40 grinding jars are manufactured from high-performance thermoplastic polymers that exhibit extreme torsional rigidity and structural ballistic impact resistance. This specific polymer matrix is designed to withstand the massive kinetic impacts of rock fragments or seeds without undergoing plastic deformation (fracture prevention). At the same time, the material integrity ensures that no disruptive plasticisers or polymer particles are released into the analytical matrix under thermal stress.
Aerosol containment and elimination of carry-over in high-throughput applications
When grinding toxic, infectious or highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in a batch process, preventing uncontrolled aerosol formation is an absolute safety priority. The MT 40 grinding beaker functions as a hermetically sealed containment system. The process takes place in a completely sealed atmosphere, thereby physically protecting the user from respirable fine dust. The fundamental metrological design principle as a ‘single-use’ vessel also guarantees that analytical cross-contamination (carry-over of DNA fragments or chemical traces) between consecutive batches is completely eliminated. This bulk pack containing 100 units enables high-throughput laboratories to maintain an uninterrupted process chain, as it completely eliminates the need for the thermodynamically and time-consuming cleaning of conventional stainless-steel grinding chambers.

Custom requirements & accessories
The MT 40.100 grinding beakers are dedicated single-use consumables and function exclusively in combination with the IKA Tube Mill drive system. The pack of 100 is the optimal solution, both in terms of process engineering and cost-effectiveness, for analytical laboratories with high sample throughput. To efficiently scale the logistics of your sample preparation and avoid supply bottlenecks during time-critical analysis runs (e.g. during the agricultural season or for geological screenings), we recommend setting up framework agreements.
